//OLD REVIEW FROM MUSICBOARD//
like with cherry bomb, i didn't really know what to expect from this album at all. there seems to be a lot of mixed reviews here, some saying it's mid, while a lot of the die-hard tyler stans love this thing. what i got was a goofy yet almost beautiful-sounding record, which for seems to set the floor for album like IGOR and CMIYGL. and while it's not nearly as good as those albums, i still very much enjoyed listening to it.
it's not perfect though. there's definitely some half-baked tracks included, namely songs like "awkward", though it's entirely possible that it sounds like that because of its name. also how did people not know he was at least a little gay as early as this album? "said i was racist and homophobic, so i grabbed lucas and filmed us kissing, feelings getting caught, it's off, i'm pissing, you think i give a fuck? i ain't even stick my dick in yet".........???? this is mad sus behavior you guys. i guess the straights really don't have gaydar huh...oh well.
anyway, songs like "48", "jamba" and "answer" end up really tying this together to make it as great as it is. they show how much potential tyler had, even back in 2013 he was making bangers and beats that i can only describe as heavenly. 48 especially...everything about it is catchy and memorable as hell. it's the most played song on the album, and for good reason. it's the perfect example of a multi-purpose song: it's a banger, it's a bop, it's a vibe, and it's a groove. it's very rare that you find a song like that. and again, all of these songs are very goofy, but it's also a rare instance where a song is goofy as hell and also somewhat beautiful at the same time.
so yes, this is a very good album.
