putting a piano ballad as the third track on this album was such a wacky fuckin idea
they rlly didn't have to include the title track on the tvun vinyl but they sure did

this album certainly had a lot to live up to, even for me, someone who'd only been listening to run the jewels for a day before hearing it. i listened to the quadrilogy in order, and i have to say i loved each one more than the last. so you can imagine that i was very excited but also nervous to hear the fourth and final installment. would it be better than everything i'd heard prior? would it fall flat? maybe even just mid? maybe just good???

almost immediately, d'angelo's voodoo surrounds you with chill vibes. the first track, "playa playa", kicks off with snaps and a smooth as hell drum beat accompanied by soulful vocals and soft horns from every direction. the song is seven minutes long, which seems like a lot, but it genuinely feels like it's only three or four minutes.
the bass takes the lead on track two, titled "devil's pie." like on the first song, the drums are crisp and ... read more

i've never been a big fan of the rolling stones, i've always been more of a beatles person. however it's hard to deny the greatness that is this album's opening track "gimme shelter". i've always loved this song, like many others do. so when i saw that it was the opening track of this album, i got very excited. so did the rest of the record live up to that song?
the second track, "love in vain", is so obviously trying to be bob dylan that ... read more

mitski is one of my favorite artists as of recent, and i think it's for good reason. her music has an incredible range, from cheery-sounding pop ballads, to personal, emotional anthems, to moving ballads that will continue to break my heart everytime i hear them. so how does "laurel hell" live up to those expectations?
on this record, mitski's music remains a rich wonderland of honest lyrics accompanied by endlessly catchy tunes. i've always had an ... read more

charming, fun, and profane all at once, dre delivers a hard-hitting record to rival the likes of his work with NWA. this being my first exposure to snoop and dre as a pair, i'm more than blown away. i always knew they were iconic, but THIS iconic? this is wild. it goes without saying that the beats here as nice as fuck, with these beautiful synths always coming in to carry the track along smoothly. the rapping from dre and snoop dogg compliment it all very ... read more

like with cherry bomb, i didn't really know what to expect from this album at all. there seems to be a lot of mixed reviews here, some saying it's mid, while a lot of the die-hard tyler stans love this thing. what i got was a goofy yet almost beautiful-sounding record, which for seems to set the floor for album like IGOR and CMIYGL. and while it's not nearly as good as those albums, i still very much enjoyed listening to it.
it's not perfect though. there's ... read more

initially, i was extremely skeptical of this album due to the amount of hate it gets from critics like anthony fantano. that's the main reason i waited so long to give it a full listen, even being a fan of so much of tyler's other work. however, in recent years i've noticed that many people actually love this record, especially people who love tyler in general like i do. so i really was going into this with very mixed expectations.

I love death grips. If i remember correctly, the money store was actually one of my first hip hop albums, if you don’t count hamilton, which i don’t. granted, i thought the album sounded like shit at the time, but my point is that i’ve been listening to death grips for a very long time now. And with several of their albums in my top albums list, i figured i should probably listen to bottomless pit as well. I don’t know why it’s taken ... read more
well, this is my 500th review. before we begin, I want to thank you all for the warm welcome back that I've received these past couple months. it's very comforting to know that I've been remembered after all this time :) I love you all. so, without further ado....
As I sat on his couch, drunk beyond belief, I heard a mechanical “clack” in the far corner of the room where he was standing. I decided to turn around. What could that sound be? Surely nothing mid. He wasn’t the ... read more
