With this song, Brenda Lee Becomes the 1st ever person to get 2 #1 songs while still a teenager. also, the 2nd ever solo female artist to get 2 #1 songs. (The 1st woman was Connie Francis) This song is decent with a good vocal performance and a unremarkable instrumental. This song is more historic for the 2 reasons I listen than it is for the song itself.
What a laid-back little ditty. Wow, that's the first time I've used "Ditty" in a review before. the 60s must really be having a pull on me. This song is a simple sweet tune. I will leave it with this thought. This is the only #1 song the Drifters ever had. It makes sense that it was back when Ben E. King was the leader of the group. Because Ben is a once-in-a-generation level talent.
Besides the purposely annoying vocals of a pleading coward. There's also a question that runs through my mind and that is what side is Larry Verne on? The side of the indigenous people who are defending themselves and their land. Or the side of Custer the man sent to try and exterminate a race of people? My race no less. A question that would overshadow the song if it wasn't for how terrible the vocals are.
This song has solid vocals that are completely washed out in the mix with how loud and unpleasant the Instrumental is. The mix of this is so bad I actually went to Spotify to make sure it was the real copy of the song and not a bad YouTube rip and it wasn't it just really sounds that bad.
The first real dance instruction song ever to be popular. This is a novelty that would sell in the country and especially in rap and hip-hop music. Usually, the quality of the dance instruction songs is pretty low. This song is an exception to that rule. You got to love what's being done here. It's a fun little tune I can picture people in the 60s doing this very conservative dance and feeling like rebels for twisting their hips. Don't want your parents to catch you twisting in broad daylight.
This song is another perfectly okay Elvis song. The most notable things about this song are the fact it's one of the top 10 best-selling physical copies of music of all time, With 20 million Physical copies. Also, look at those pearly whites on the cover. You go Elvis.
Oh my god. What to say about this song. the chorus is so twee and kiddish in the worst way. But what gets to me is the verses where no one helps the girl. This dude in the story is just standing offside singing about I assume her friend or girlfriend and at no point comes in and is like "Hey you don't have to wear this if you don't want to" or "Hey you look uncomfortable all covered in a blanket want to get more covered?" no instead of this tool just stands there doing ... read more
I don't know what to say about this song. The only thing notable about this song, Is that a 15-year-old Brenda Lee had the vocal chops to perform it at this age. This song borders on good and borders on bad at multiple points of this song. but those feelings fade every time, leaving me with the only appropriate score to indicate that I could not be more indifferent about a song. a 50 out of 100.
Is this supposed to be a novelty song? Well, it fails at that massively. or maybe it succeeds at it because I know most Novelty songs are bad so maybe they're supposed to be this bad. Who knows anymore?
Funny thing. So I'm reviewing every #1 song ever in Billboard history. The one that was #1 right before this was "Cathy's Clown" By the Everly Brothers. It feels like this song except it's the male version and a different word for the idea and it's also worse sound-wise and vocal-wise than this song. Fun little track but nothing to write home about. But you should still write home in general. It's been 14 and a half years, Grandma is unwell and your sister hasn't spoken to you since ... read more
This song is the definition of unremarkable, When all is said and done I won't remember this song in like a few weeks. I'm really reaching for commentary on this song. But there just isn't. I'll leave it with these 2 things. 1. I hope you found another woman who you aren't a clown for. and 2. R.I.P Phil & Don Everly.
My first rating of 69 was a momentous occasion to be sure. I mean this is the typical Elvis softer style song. So your appreciation of this song or lack thereof. Will most likely be based on your opinion of Elvis as an overall artist. My opinion of Elvis is simple. A talented performer but overall just overrated to an extremely high degree. This song is not bad by any stretch of the imagination it's just not anything that stands out for Elvis or for music in general.
This is one of my grandma's Favorite songs. Instrumental or otherwise. I can see why it's a very sweet little high-pitched tune to listen to. I've never seen the movie and likely never will. So I can't fully know if the song is made better or worse by its placement in the film. I do know it can make a pretty big difference in the enjoyment in a song. I've loved songs and hated them in a scene of a movie or thought a song was meh and then in context thought it was great in the way it was used. ... read more
This song's fine but uninspired performance is far overshadowed by the lyrics and context of this song. whether it's the fact the song centers around a death of a 16-year-old girl or whether it's the fact that it's a love song being sung by an at the time 26-year-old about a 16-year-old. Or whether it's the fact it's 1 of the little over 100 songs banned on Radio by BBC, in its over 100 years on air. All these things are valid and my personal reasons for not being able to judge vocal ... read more
This song has the chants in the background. Also, the vocals are not that good, to be honest. I barely know who Johnny Preston is. IF this is the quality of his music i see why he's been so forgotten to time. Not much else to say, If you're in the mood for some 50s pop/doo-wop type song listen to almost any other hit song from this time instead. it will almost certainly be better than this.
This song is one of the most fantastic Country songs ever made. It's classic in all the right ways. I see now why most of the reviews on this song are perfect 100s. Tells a beautiful story of love and fear and death. I can't fully put into words other than say that this needs to be in every Red Dead Redemption video game and every cantina restaurant in town for the rest of time.
This song is by Frankie Avalon which is a guy that I overall dislike as an artist and this song is honestly Terrible. This song reminds me of one of those types of songs that you're supposed to sing to your Partner and a campfire. But doesn't matter if they want to hear it or not. It sounds like he wrote it in a few hours before the date, To Be honest, if someone sang this at me, I'd consider breaking up. because the lyrics would give me so many red flags and would genuinely be scared that ... read more
I'm so glad a handful of young people are vaguely aware of this song. Because of the 2010 video game "Fallout: New Vegas" The only review on this page other than mine literally is about the game. My journey to get to this lovely track was different from my "Must listen to every #1 song of all time list being made." I Love this song. This is a gold standard of a doo-wop song. The best one I've heard so far. So RIP Guy Mitchell.
The Lead Single and Title Track of the First Studio Album from the Fleetwoods is the song "Mr. Blue" A song that I like but don't love I've heard Better Fleetwoods songs in my day. Typical Love Lorn Ballad like anything else. But what's funny to me is the last verse where they get the thing I just knew would be a part of a song titled "Mr. Blue" which is a line about the girl and the color Red, And how they're Mr. Blue. I was right. So Bonus Points for that.
Two interesting facts about this song, Besides the obvious fact that it's a timeless tune. This song is actually the 3rd version ever made. Because 4 years before this song Louis Armstrong had released this song but that was only the 2nd Version. The 1st Version was originally Made for a play called "Macheath" back in 1928 in Germany. That's right this song was actually called "Die Moritat von Mackie Messer" In German or "The Ballad of Mack the Knife" in English. ... read more
