It's weird, because I don't know how to rate this album in good faith against any known metric or Earthly criteria. This music is otherworldly. It perfectly emulates alien music; melodies, grooves, and rhythms that are so foreign to our ears yet it is the grooviness that keeps us listening. We all came for the intrigue, yet stayed for the actual catchy tunes.
This is weird music that requires a specific acquired taste to truly appreciate. My god do I love the taste of these guys.
This album feels MASSIVE. It takes you on a journey through space, into the Stargate and beyond. An absolutely phenomenal record. It's weird, innovative, extraordinary, and uniquely atmospheric. This album has redefined what is possible in synthpop/art-pop while also keeping it accessible and digestible for the ordinary listener to enjoy. The singles Poppy released from this album were not particularly ear-catching or interesting; I had tentative faith in this project even though I have been a huge fan since I Disagree. I believe her singles do represent the nature of this album: over-produced, safe, and unoriginal, although still catchy and fun enough to revisit.
