Close second to Seat at the Table, but what a wonderful weird R&B journey Solange takes us on.
Perfectly average blues rock album by Gary. Politically charged opener "This Land" puts the spotlight on racism in America, but it comes off a bit cringey. Album definitely picks up in the second half - Gotta Get Into Something is catchy AF.
Maybe the expectations are too high, but Czarface & Ghostface Killah SHOULD be a match made in heaven. Just like the MF Doom album should have been.
But, it ends up just being....eh. Go back to doing albums that aren't collaborative.
Pretty solid bedroom-pop/indie rock sound you'd expect from Girlpool.
Not too solid. Only enjoyable tracks for me were "By Myself" and "Alcohol". Everything else is too much of a transition out of their old sound into something that isn't bearable.
Deerhunter coming out with another Deerhunter-esque album. No idea what direction they were going in for Detournement though.
While the singles leading up to this record didn't captivate me, they work very well with the album as a whole.
Very funky, but would have been much better as an instrumental album. The features didn't work, and all in all falls short of expectations.
If I wanted to provide someone the most average, paint by numbers Indie Pop album, this would be it.
