While not quite the hidden gem I was hoping this to be, it is far from the critical catastrophe some say the LP is. Yeah, it's "Grateful Dead's disco record", but it's also Grateful Dead's disco record!

This is a great example of what an average album was like for legacy artists who gained fame in the pre-beatle era of music. Dylan covers, Danny Boy, some traditionals, one or two originals. Usually this kind of fodder is bland, but Cash makes it really feel true to him. "One By One" is hands down the most underrated Tweedy track of all time. Fight me in the comments.

I know the Mermaid Avenue series isn't as "well received" as Wilco's proper albums but I'm still glad they exist. They're a great "oh yeah! I forgot that exists" listen. Even though I've listened to them dozens of times lol
