unfair to rate this low because i feel like this is pretty great for what it is, an ambient music piece. it’s not house music like fred’s other work. it’s calming, atmospheric relaxing and scratches my brain in the right places. i literally use Music For Airports to sleep and i consider it one of the GOAT albums so even if this does make me sleepy i can’t discredit it because it is in no way boring or dull
i don’t think any of archys work will ever reach the atmospheric masterpiece that is the OOZ but this comes close as hell. melancholy grumpy indie sad jazz
i don’t know if this is as good as after laughter yet, i think i’ll let time decide, but for now this is among the best of the bands work. not a single skip from front to back of the LP, with a perfect side A.
edit: i have not stopped listening to this album. it is fucking AMAZING and flawless and every song is executed to perfection and hayley’s vocals is magnificent and zacs drumming is so powerful
i have finalised my top 50 albums and this sits in on #5
rare national miss, after creating one of my fave albums of all time, they come back 4 years later with this mediocre piece of sad dad indie music. apart from the solid opener, the album is pretty much a snoozefest. am disappointed.
might be a hot take but i think this is the second best sonic youth album, just behind daydream nation.
ready to admit that this is one of the best rap albums of the decade. gunn so underrated
