Rating #312: Cry Baby - Vince Staples
I should've been more locked in while listening to this. Maybe a little repetitive instrumentally but very good lyrically and a great switch of pace for Vince sonically.

This album didn't click with me on my first listen last year, but the more it's come up in my playlist the more it grew on me, and I've always wanted to do a re-listen, and today was finally the day I did it. This album is amazing man. I love Bowie's voice and how much passion he can have on both the ballads and the higher energy tracks on this album. I need to listen to more Bowie.

Idk maybe I'm just a hater, but this doesn't work for me as much as it does everyone else. I love how futuristic and forward thinking this album is, but a lot of the songs feel half baked. Like there's a great idea for a song, but it doesn't have any real progression and just gets too repetitive even for a club banger. Not bad by any means, but I think if it had a few more months in the kitchen it could've been so much better and really special.

This requires another listen, but I like what I heard.

This is not what I expected based on what I've heard from Jay before, so it was a very pleasant surprise. I expected something more hardcore, and it definitely has moments where it is that, but for the most part this is really laid back and fun to listen to. The production is so smooth and catchy, and Jay has a great flow and good bars all throughout. There's only two songs I don't like (Ain't No... and Friend Or Foe) and neither ... read more

I've never been the hugest fan of this album, I've always thought it's good, but the first half is a little too mellow and boring imo and the hits are to big and overplayed for me to properly enjoy them (which isn't the album's fault ofc). Definitely some great stuff on here though, and a nice change of pace for Abel.

The second half of this is what really drags it down. The first half is pretty decent, some genuinely good songs and some that I'm like, "there's some good ideas here but it's not super special." Then after sidewalks it keeps that for a little until attention and everything becomes really boring. It's not bad or annoying to listen to, it's got a nice mood (the whole album does) but it's repetitive and Abel isn't saying anything besides ... read more
Rating #309: The Black Album - JAY-Z
Another album I haven't listened to in a long time, and it still holds up. The production can feel a little dated at times, but there's not really a skip. There's such a bounce throughout the whole album and I can't help but bop my head to it. Another classic.

Don't listen to this on a plane bc now I have to relisten to it bc plane albums never sound good.
Rating #307: The Blueprint - JAY-Z
I listened to this album way back when I first started getting music probably 2-3 years ago so it's been a veryyy long time and I've been meaning to come back to it, and I figured there wasn't a better time than when I was in New York for a school trip, and here we are. This album is very good, I love every beat on this thing and Jay has so much confidence in his flow that you've just gotta listen to him. There's maybe a couple songs ... read more

I didn't really get this album when I listened to it before: I thought a lot of the lyrics were cheesy, the flows weren't all that interesting and I didn't care for the skits/interludes (I still don't). But I listened to it on a sunny day riding around on a bike in New York (today), and it was one of the most purely joyful experiences I've had in a long time. It's such an upbeat album that I couldn't help but smile through out the whole day. I ... read more
