Death Magnetic is Metallica's ninth studio album and also one of their most dragging, bland, and dull albums to date. This is basically the group trying to make a 6 minute-long classic metal song with EVERY TRACK, except they end up going 0-10 in their attempt. Sure, the production is rough, the vocals/songwriting is underwhelming, and the instrumentation isn't as heavy as Metallica's standards but I think the aspect to top it all off is the seemingly endless length of this thing. Did I mention that over half the tracks are 6+ minutes long? The length was just a huge turn-off for me, not to mention that there were minimum points of interest to keep me wanting to listen. I was checking the time every few minutes to see how close it was to the end. I basically just toughed it out for the sake of hearing the entire record. That is definitely NOT a reaction that you want from your listeners. With St. Anger, I was sorta entertained just because of how bad it was. But in the case of Death Magnetic, it might be even worse just because of how much it takes out of the listener. I was not entertained once while listening to this. I just wanted it to end as soon as possible.
