In a way, it sounds nothing like AURORA whilst simultaneously sounding exactly like AURORA. I love the venture into a new sound and think for the most part, it works out pretty well! There are a few tracks here that end up making the whole experience a bit bloated, but overall a really solid album :)
'John Cena the way I'm bing chilling' 🗣️
I'll be honest, coming into this I wasn't quite sure what to expect having never heard of Joey Valence and/or Brae - in fact I was probably expecting a cringey attempt at a hip-hop album with some interesting features to salvage it.
What I actually found was an incredible boom bap hip-hop album that whilst full of pretty corny lyrics, has such an incredible energy and nostalgic feel that you can't help but love every second of it. The features ... read more
I haven't listened to anything by Charli in a good while, so I was curious to hear how BRAT would sound as I wasn't quite sure what to expect. What I found was mostly a pretty solid pop music, with some real stand out tracks scattered throughout - my personal favourite probably being So I, a track that oozes SOPHIE in a way which is beautiful in itself. However, whilst there are a good few standout tracks, I can't help but feel that several aspects of this album let it down somewhat - I wasn't ... read more
Really cool, enjoyable release from L'impératrice! Love the Maggie Rogers feature, and so many of the tracks have such a mellow, funky groove that gives them brilliant replayability. A good listen!
Where the fuck did this come from?
Anime boy drops another banger out of nowhere and continues to forge a new, yet somehow completely familiar, sound in the leadup to his new album. It moves even further away from the electronic sound of Worlds, and features Porter himself far more prominently as in Cheerleader. With the track being quite long, its given plenty of room to grow and develop, and results in a pretty beautiful, heartbreakingly introspective track! The final drop gave me ... read more
Pretty nice - really enjoyed the vocals and there's a real seaside/sailor vibe to the tracks. Saying that, it did lose me quite quickly as I found it got a bit samey and monotonous the longer it went on. A decent album, but I don't think I'll return to it
A nice smooth listen, but pretty boring as a whole album
Really pretty listen and enjoy the variety of sounds, but as others have mentioned it does suffer from being overly generic fairly often throughout the album. There are moments when everything clicks though - for example the track 'Run Your Mouth' was a real stand out for me - but then unfortunately the final run of tracks was a bit underwhelming in contrast. Still, a very decent album and a good introduction for myself to the Marías!
Enjoyed the variety on display here, but nothing really stood out to me personally. A good listen, and could be a fun introduction to many to Latin music! :)
It's gets a 0 purely for the fact that Michael Quinn was probably involved
Really decent shoegaze, albeit a bit samey. No individual songs to return to in particular, but a solid album as an overall listen
Skinner just sounds lazy here, it has so little energy compared to his best work. Falls completely flat because of it.
Sweet in concept, but lacks the charm needed to make it hit home
There is potential here! Rough around the edges and as mentioned by others quite a few aspects need some work, but generally I like the direction!
It's not Simz best work, but as a short experiment of an EP I quite enjoyed the idea behind it. It absolutely needs more time and work put into it, but I do think there's some potential here.
