A brilliant display of talent - Cosmo Sheldrake is a master at manipulating sounds into a wave of curiosity and fun. There's such a distinct feel to a Cosmo Sheldrake track, which in itself is impressive given how diverse the sounds he uses in his music are. Overall this is a really fun listen and one that will keep you engaged with just how varied and impressive it is!
Corny as it can get, the vocals really don't land for me and the songs themselves do little to lift that shortcoming. There is some decent energy throughout, but it feels like it's all very similar and leads to a very monotonous listen. Can't see myself ever returning to this - it's just really not my thing.
Incredibly generic, but nice enough at times. Tracks like Glockenspiel Song show some catchy hit potential, but as a whole album it's about as bland can be. As such it really feels like a drag of an album due to the lack of substance :(
Really solid dream pop, but lacks the memorable aspects found in some of their singles. An enjoyable listen but not sure I have too much of a reason to return to it in the future
I will put as much effort into this review as Taylor and Jack put into this album
A good album but you can certainly feel a hint of amateurism throughout. At times it threatens to become brilliant, but always seems to fall short for one reason or another - it's still a good listen but it's like it's teasing something even better. Personally I find the tracks certainly stand stronger independently than as a part of a full album.
Whilst being a totally acceptable and reasonably solid album, it just feels utterly forgettable. Outside of Balu, I don't think I'll remember anything about this album within a couple of days, if not hours, from now. Good to see Elbow making good music still though!
When this album clicks it's pretty spectacular, however I find that it suffers from trying to do too much within itself. The writing can be a bit of a let down at times too, however I definitely enjoyed the overall feel of the album and quite a few tracks have some potential for several return listens.
A beautifully vivid album, it's incredible how much emotion can be conveyed through so little
It's like a best of British combo - there's hints of BCNR, Self Esteem, Wet Leg, Jockstrap, and more all thrown together into a pretty wonderful amalgamation of sound in this album! I found most of the songwriting to be really solid and engaging, and there are some really strong standout tracks scattered throughout this release. I would say that there's a bit of dead weight towards the end, as a fair few of the closing tracks didn't really land for me, but ultimately it's a really strong ... read more
A couple of standout tracks, but ultimately the whole album is lacking and doesn't give much of a reason to return to it again for future listens
A very well made and nicely rounded album - it seems a little unsure of what it really wants to be but it's still very enjoyable nonetheless. Would have liked to have heard a bit more progression throughout the album too personally
Definitely my preferred of the two singles, the instrumentals go crazy
Vocals still need to win me over here, and it felt quite long, but still enjoyable!
It's pretty decent - I would never have guessed it was a debut release as it sounds quite well rounded and polished. However, it brings very little to set it apart from others, ultimately sounding quite monotonous and dull even for a reasonably short EP. It'll be intriguing to see how an album evolved from this, as there is definitely potential, but still plenty of way to go as well.
To be honest, in relation to my expectations for this album, Harbour Century fell completely and utterly flat. I came into it expecting to enjoy this thoroughly, and was certain that it'd be one of the top releases of the year, but instead what I got was a pretty unenjoyable and underwhelming listen. At times it sounds cheesy and corny, and the soundscapes they create at times just don't work for me sometimes. There are some really strong moments on this album, but it's such an up and down ... read more
