Some of the punkier moments made me cringe tbh (Sucker, Break the Rules) but it was good overall.
I'm sorry Carly Rae for hating on Call Me Maybe so much as a kid. It is a great song.. And this is a fun album. I liked every song.
The little "Cupid, draw back your bow" Sam Cooke sample was a super cute way to open the album. Tonight I'm Getting Over you was hype as hell. I even loved Beautiful. The riff kind of reminded me of Hey There Delilah, and that line "What makes you so beautiful
Is you don't know how beautiful you are, to me" line obviously ... read more
I stumbled upon "Stress Builds Character" about a year ago and loved it, but then forgot what the song was called. Thought I'd never find it again but I randomly stumbled upon it the other day and decided to listen to the rest of the album...and, my god, what a haunting listen!
The instrumentation and the vocals do a great job at creating a dark atmosphere. The opening track "Stress Builds Character" has Dan Kaufman's screaming about being fucked by life but ... read more
Batshit insane album. Mariko's singing goes from cutsie to ultra aggressive throughout, and they both versions of her hit hard. She lures you in with a dainty sounding first track, and then destroys your eardrums in the second track. The keyboard and guitar go absolutely mental throughout the album, with the drums haphazardly gluing all the chaos together.
Mariko's vocals were not present on the last track, which is the only thing I didn't like about the album. I missed her ... read more
Production is fun but the lyrics are bland. The songs work well individually - in fact, I liked every single track on here individually-but it felt pretty same-y as a whole album. I'm glad Charli experimented more in her future work and spiced up her songwriting.
Pretty fun project but I'm pretty surprised that music nerds love it so much. A lot of it feels like standard pop songs with generic lyrics about love.
There are definitely some high moments on here though, like Boy Problems, which is lyrically one of the more interesting songs on here. It's about how she won't stfu about her boy problems and how she's gonna stop doing that so she doesn't lose her best friend. You'll probably find yourself relating to at least one ... read more
I can't believe I didn't get into this band when I was in my twenty one pilots/panic at the disco phase in high school. Every song on this is a banger. Teenagers didn't feel like it fit into the narrative of the album, but it's still a fire song.
the bald head cover suits this album well cuz this shit is smoooooooth
