Remember how earlier in her career Charli said that she was gonna “break the rules?” If you’re talking about the rules of pop music, Charli does it in every way.
The production is the pop equivalent of Travis Scott’s debut album Rodeo in that both have fantastic production while also being groundbreaking, innovative, and ahead of its time.
Every single song has sounds you wouldn’t normally hear in a typical pop song in the late 2010s. Even the fairly accessible songs, like 1999, push the boundaries. Some songs go so far as being almost completely abrasive, with weird vocals and song structure, like Shake It.
All in all, this album is basically a pioneer of hyperpop, which I’m all for. (just remember that some hyperpop is pretty sh!tty)
