Sampa The Great - The Return
Sep 20, 2019
With Australia not being well known for its great hip-hop/neo-soul landscape, this is definitely a breath of fresh air. Sampha the Great delivers us with a silky-smooth, genuine and at times inspiring motivational song/writing. Thanks to people like Luke James and Shenalg, this album would have went under my radar. Sampha the great brings an inner-spiritual themes and concept surrounding on the album, detailing her journey in the music scene and up-bringing. Similar to artists like Solange and Little simz, Sampha the great shows how being a black female artist can have both its challenges and black excellences. The many features on here do compliment on here seemingly well without being jarring. However, my cons on here can be at times some of the sonic palette on here not being as fresh or dimensional as others. With all that being said, I hope this artist gets the love and recognition that she deserves as her music and charm elevates what Australia music can bring!
