Every song follows about the same basic formula. Yes, the riffs are pretty hard, and the atmospheric elements are nice, but it's just so predictable. I didn't feel myself actually getting lost in the music, which for this genre is pretty important to me.
A little too on the nose for my tastes at times, but when it hits it fucking hits. Great stuff.
I don't know, I feel like these songs are pretty tame and sleepy in comparison to her other works.
If Carseat Headrest did Jangle Pop. And honestly it's really good, I just didn't find the vocals to be my cup of tea. I kind of wished they were bigger and more electric. I feel like the height that some of these songs reached instrumentally would have been that much better with vocals that soared alongside them. Otherwise, this was a good record.
I want to be a hater so fucking bad, but this is actually listenable in a weird way. The samples are so brain rot gen alpha I'm kind of here for it.
A beautiful collection of songs that shine in their own way, but I couldn't help but miss the soundscapes of the previous record.
I found this record to just be okay. A lot of the highs hit the same, as do a lot of the lows. A lot of these tracks are bursting with anticipation and when the moment finally hits it feels awfully similar to how it hit the last time. And the vocals I'm just uhh....not really a fan of how they sound at times.
Big box retail stores are bound to love this one! Jokes aside, this was fine with each track following pretty much the same basic formula. It's not a bad one, but there needs to be more set dressing here to make it less obvious that we're just rinsing and repeating the same track over and over again.
It's a decent album, but goddamn is this track list bloated with some really uninteresting songs that weigh the rest of it down. There is no reason this thing need to have this many songs. It's just such a mixed bag of quality.
I'll give it some credit for not being awful, but otherwise this album clears a very low bar of quality. It's painfully derivative, trying but failing to live up to the influences it's so obviously inspired by. The lyrics are mostly corny and uninteresting, the vocal performances are so bland and forgettable. And some of the tracks have this strange victim complex narrative to them....I just can't. This shit sucks.
Another solid release from Blu & Exile, but i can't help but feel like some of the features were a bit underutilized. Otherwise, great stuff. It's lyrically sharp, the beats are catchy and layered. There's a reason these guys are some of the best to do it, and this album is just another example of that.
It's good, I just don't know if it's an hour and seventeen minutes long good. Like there's a bunch of songs on here that i liked, don't get me wrong, but at 17 tracks long I was feeling a bit of fatigue by this record's close. When it's good, it's great, but not every track shines like the rest.
A very solid release from this iconic Japanese shoegaze outfit. As its own record its great. It's dreamy, loud, with waves of overwhelming sound and distortion that come crashing down on you all throughout. When held up against it's predecessors, I find their previous works to be more compelling.
It's a shame they never made more music, but this is some fantastic goth synth bubblegum pop. Then again with Phil Thornalley on production, it's no surprise that so many aspects of this record shine in the ways that they do.
A fun and enjoyable listen with some bops here and there, but overall this plays it far safer than the two records that came before it. There just isn't as much oomf to a lot of these songs. It's not bad, don't get me wrong, it's just much more standard disco without as many twists and turns and surprises and depth that the previous two records offered.
It needed more cowbell (see track 7). Jokes aside, this was a fun listen. The guitars fucken rip. The songs themselves are distinct and well composed, making for an engaging listen. Fans of the black metal / thrash metal genre are sure to enjoy this one.
Pretty remarkable how well made this album is. It's immaculately produced, super fun and creative from front to back with thoughtful and well written lyrics. Everything is so well spaced out, there isn't really a section of this record that feels like it was stacked with the better ideas, each track is given the room to breathe and shine on its own while still fitting neatly into the overall sonic themes of the rest of the album. Big props to Tiffany Day and everyone who worked on ... read more
A mixed bag of ideas and production that had me hooked and excited at some points, but scratching my head at others. Still, a really solid comeback album nonetheless.
