Quick review 8
Absolutely crazy 9 song run; friend or foe, coming of age and cashmere thoughts bring the energy down, but the album finishes solid with the last 2 songs
Best: dead presidents ii, brooklyns finest, politics as usual, 22 twos, cant knock the hustle
Worst: friend or foe
Quick review 7
Feels like they sacrificed their flow for more conscious themes, which bumped the album down a little for me; still a fantastic project
Best: dis generation, the killing season, black spasmodic, whateva will be, we the people
Worst: lost somebody
Quick review 6
Weird outlier in tribe's fantastic discography, still had some good tracks
Best: find a way, busta's lament, pad & pen
Worst: da booty, his name is mutty ranks, hot sex
Quick review 5
This gets too much hate, it is actually very good and should be must listen
Best: once again, jam, phony rappers, stressed out, get a hold
Worst: seperate/together
Quick review 4
Great project that is on pretty much the same level as TLET
Best: electric relaxation, award tour, sucka N, the chase part ii, we can get down
Worst: 8 million stories
Quick review 3
Such a well produced album with no bad tracks
Best: buggin out, jazz (weve got), verses from the abstract, check the rhyme, excursions
Worst: infamous date rape
Quick review 2:
Great debut album with good vibes, fun beats, and a super easy listen overall
Best: can i kick it, push it along, i left my wallet, luck of lucien, after hours
Worst: ham n eggs
Quick review 1:
It is a good album that is much more different than his previous albums
Best: no intro, cherry wine, loco motive, accident murderers, daughters
Worst: summer on smash, the don
This is a good but inconsistent album. I wish Nas and Jay z would collab more.
Best: black republican, still dreaming, money over BS, hip hop is dead
Worst: who killed it, hope
Some of Nas's most conscious work since his debut. I am amazed this is a compilation, it feels like such a cohesive project. Nas needs to utilize more of this style in his future projects.
Best: doo rags, purple, no ideas original, my way, black zombie
Worst: fetus
After taking a two-album detour, Nas delivers his most consistently good project in a while. Disclaimer: i did not listen to braveheart party and based on the ratings i am not going to bother finding it. second childhood might be nas's most underrated songs.
Best: one mic, ether, 2nd childhood, got urself a gun
Worst: my country
"Y'all know my steelo, with or without the airplay," Nas affirms on his arguable masterpiece N.Y. State of Mind. Littered with weird hooks and unusual beat selection (looking at you New World), Nastradamus is an unfamiliar departure from Nas's usual "steelo." Only tracks I would keep are the three green ones, the rest i could, and will, leave.
Best: come get me, project window, life we chose
Worst: big girl, new world, quiet Ns, you owe me, shoot em up
i dont have much to say about mid albums, and this was one of them. cant believe nas is like is on this album, it sticks out like a sore thumb (in a good way). liked NY state pt ii, but there was no way it could ever live up to the original, similarly to the album as a whole.
Best: nas is like, ny state of mind 2, we will survive
Worst: dr knockboot, kissing, i want to talk to you
Much like the later released mobb deep's hell on earth and Wu-tang forever, It Was Written is an outstanding new york boom bap LP living in the constant shadow of their respective artist's legendary debut album. Super similar to Illmatic, but where his debut reflected a young, ambitious hustler, IWW portrays a more mature, focused, and methodical gangster. I gave you power is better than the message.
Best: i gave you power, if i ruled the world, the message, live N rap, street ... read more
Not earls best work but still enjoyable, especially with the 24 minute runtime. I dont really have much to say about this, so short review for a short album.
Best: tabula rasa, 2010, old friend
Worst: god laughs
Normally i dont review deluxes but this kinda sucked aside from life of the party. could have just replaced tell the vision with life of the party on the main album and not had the deluxe songs.
Best: life of the party
Worst: the other deluxe songs
EDIT:
This lowk grew off me alot so i lowered my score by 10. Still mostly good, but the songs surrounding the highs just dont hit as much as on the first listen.
A far cry from his chipmunk soul graduation trilogy era, which is my personal favorite discipline of his. I was dreading starting this album, as i was concerned about the long run time and had heard about how bloated the album is, but nonetheless Mr. West has done it again. While the album could have abandoned a couple of songs + all ... read more
You know a song is gonna be good when it says Mobb Deep featuring nas. Album felt like more of the same from the duo, which is not necessarily a bad thing, but i felt it did not have a true standout track like on The Infamous or Hell on Earth. clipse having one of the greatest years in modern hip hop.
Best: pour the henny, look at me, against the world, clear black nights
Worst: we the real thing
