Radiohead - In Rainbows

okay, first off: radiohead’s drummer philip selway absolutely went off for this album; ‘in rainbows’ goes. the alliteration, elements, emotions, shifting speed, syncopation, textures.. everything works.

it’s insane how quality and well thought out this project is.

while quickly vocalizing the brief phrase “as your bad day disappears”, Yorke sings the ‘d’ sound/syllable thrice! yet it sounds only once because it’s so fast. he’s slurring the beautiful lyrics into a strange substance. this is some of the best alliteration I’ve ever heard in music; another instance being “closed circuit cameras, before you comatose,”

“bodysnatchers” has quite a unique mix of screaming, electronics/electronica, orchestration, indistinguishable bass, and transgender infused sounds and lyrics.

as many know radiohead dropped ‘In Rainbows’ in the beginning stages/napster era of pirating/releasing music. they did so to an industry changing effect which all subsequent future music releases would follow. releasing music free regularly was risky, even unsafe, and radiohead proved releasing free music to be revolutionary.

“they got a Ches-shire Cat ga-rin, all blurrin into one”. * (look up: ‘open pick’ what used to be Jigsaw)* OPEN PICK/JIGSAW: opens with picking guitar and chaotic drums then the cymbals crash everything into existence. then the chamber choral arrangements by mister greenwood himself. then yorke’s haunting voice making Halloween seem like Valentine’s Day..

‘Weird Fishes / Arpeggi’ are, arguably, the best two songs on this album. with selway GOING OFF ON TIMING and the emotions kicking in feels, full gear.

‘videotape’ has a HIDDEN drum SYNCOPATION which is FASCINATING as the phenomena is explained: https://youtu.be/RvKhtFXPswk ; https://youtu.be/p_IHotHxIl8. the piano substitutes for all instruments/drums ??

‘15 step’is a perfect song; for which i haven’t words. it’s got glitch drumming and glistening

‘All I Need’ sounds like a backwards, looping trap of heartache and loving. the chilling piano feels hurting leading to:
‘Faust ARP’: the closest this act gets to rap is also the softest lullaby.
