David Bowie - Blackstar
Jul 11, 2016
80
when analyzing blackstar, bowie's sad yet triumphant swan song for the ages, his death must be taken notice of. his impending demise is the central theme of backstar, casting a eeire shadow over the whole record, which is only complemented by the dark, free-jazz production that recalls sonny sharrock & bitches brew-era miles davis. although the instrumental palette never really strays beyond these themes, blackstar reaches moments of beauty, retrospection, and unsettling calamity all with image of bowie smirking, staring into oblivion, as he delivers one last grand statement.

best tracks: dollar days / sue (or in a season of crime) / i can't give everything away
