Slint - Spiderland

Spiderland by Slint is one of the most unbelievable, unlikely, electrifying albums of all time. Every song is a slow-building, churning masterpiece of mounting dread and sadness, often never seeing any kind of musical resolution. Breadcrumb Trail imagines a seemingly innocuous exchange between a boy and a girl as a terrifying roller coaster of emotions. You just know something isn't right from the first note, and as soon as it drops it's flimsy facade, the ride doesn't end until the final track, the dense, sprawling masterpiece, Good Morning, Captain. It's one of the most chilling, epic songs of all time, just itching to burst with all of the raw emotion and anxiety that the album has been building up. It all comes tumbling down with Brian McMahan's final screams of "I MISS YOU!!!"

The fact that this album seems to have come from a group of young slackers from Podunk, Kentucky only adds to the album's unsettling dimensions.
