#252 Rolling Stone’s “Greatest 500 Albums of All Time”

I like the concept behind this, but sadly I don’t think it was executed as well as it could’ve been. While not bad, this has not aged the best in my opinion, and listening to some of these songs unexplainably stressed me out.

#253 Rolling Stone’s “Greatest 500 Albums of All Time”

Honestly I wasn’t expecting an early (1960s) Pink Floyd album to make this list, especially higher than Wish You Were Here, but this was a surprisingly solid debut for the band. It would be interesting to see where the band would’ve gone if not for Syd Barrett’s unfortunate departure.

#254 Rolling Stone’s “Greatest 500 Albums of All Time”

I’m actually so serious how am I meant to rate or rank something like this compared to the others it’s impossible for me. Chameleon is an incredible 15 minute opening track and Watermelon Man might be up there for one of my favourite songs ever. The last two tracks I find a tad more forgettable than the first two particularly Vein Melter which I thought was a significantly weaker bookend to the album compared ... read more

#255 Rolling Stone’s “Greatest 500 Albums of All Time”

To be completely honest I was a bit underwhelmed by this album, but that only comes down to how iconic and recognisable it is, and how much good I’ve heard about it. That’s alright though, because doing a list like this that’s bound to happen, and I still enjoyed it overall - some tracks on this are beyond amazing and the writing is generally stellar on the whole thing. I did think the first half was a ... read more

#256 Rolling Stone’s “Greatest 500 Albums of All Time”

Damn…. That was hella good. Featuring a tracklist of consistently great songs, Tracy Chapman overachieves in successfully combining strong political messaging with hit songs, delivering a captivating performance and amazing vocals. I feel bad for only thinking of her as the “Fast Car” singer before this.

#257 Rolling Stone’s “Greatest 500 Albums of All Time”

There’s really not much bad I can say about this album, I think it literally just comes down to not exactly being my taste, something just feels lacking despite it ticking all the boxes. Dolly Parton brings charm and energy to her fabulously written lyrics over great instrumentation and the title track is a real standout. Upon relistens I was shocked how memorable the songs were however I think that could come down ... read more

This actually seems like the group heard all my slandering of them and then produced an album almost entirely attuned to my taste, even if I’m not the BIGGEST fan of the rapping and performances, this was a surprisingly hella enjoyable listen for me.

#262 Rolling Stone’s “Greatest 500 Albums of All Time”

A DAMN great collection of tracks and a DAMN great album, I suspect this will be in my rotation for a long time. The only thing that drags this rating down very slightly is that the second and third last songs are quite forgettable to me compared to the rest, as well as the fact that bookends of this album are phenomenally above most the tracklist.

#263 Rolling Stone’s “Greatest 500 Albums of All Time”

They did it (again?). The first album consisting of only songs originally written by McCartney and Lennon and no covers, they already demonstrate such a great prowess in their ability to do so. I found this album much more melodic and catchy than the deep-cuts on Help!, and I think I may like this project better as a whole because of it.

“We're just two lost souls swimming in a fishbowl, year after year”

I’m very taken aback with how low this was ranked in the list, not everything can be top 100 I suppose.
Calling this a masterpiece is an understatement, everything clicks perfectly to create a flawless and concise encapsulation of absence and loneliness, coinciding with the criticism of fame and the music industry.

I haven’t revisited Crooked Rain at all before this pick, but now I really want to. Pavement provide a wide variety of sounds and tap into many different genres throughout this album and it rarely feels boring. Some tracks really don’t do it for me however, especially something like Serpentine Pad - but I guess I can respect that they tried something.
