Cringing lyrics, immature topics, and terribly un-fitting production. Won't be coming back to this album. Ever.
Favorite: Bonfire
Least Favorite: All the other tracks
Besides their promotional singles, the album is filled with mediocre throwaways with forgettable hooks and painfully overused rap clichés.
Favorite Tracks: Look Alive, Black Beatles

The duo's debut is jumping with energy, but there's little character to it. The lyrics, hooks, and beats are so overused that I already feel like I've listened to the album 15 times by the start of my third listen. They need a more defining sound to match their unique intensity. And if their energy is their defining aspect, than they need to capitalize on it. But as of now, there's too little of everything for the tracks to stand out in an already-trendy sub-genre.

The first third of Future's self-titled doesn't click well. The beats don't fit, his flow is forced, and like EVOL, his sound lacks the punch. The album seems to pick up by the 7th track, "Mask Off". The pace slows down and future seems to get more groovy with his flow. Things can get repetitive at times, and it's one of his more basic projects. Besides the first track, the instrumentation is Future's least aggressive to date. Depending on what a fan enjoys in Future, this might ... read more
EVOL is arguably Future's weakest project to date. It lacks the ambition, energy, and power that future displays in the rest of his discography. He's got much more entertaining releases with much stronger production and flow.

"I Don't Like Shit" makes me question whether Earl is using his purposely unmotivated, low-fi sound to build a dreary tone, or to have an excuse to throw out effortless music.
In Earl's previous album, "Doris", the rapper lacked the energy to keep me truely interested. With "I Don't Like Shit", Sweatshirt makes things even less intreaguing by inputing bland instrumentation.
His lyrics are still strong. And even though I'm not a fan of the delivery, it matches ... read more
Tillman shares some clever perspectives on the world. And thanks to his precise writing, he effectively gets his points across. Unfortunately, "Pure Comedy" feels more like a lecture than an album I will have on repeat. He may have something unique to say, but can't deliver it without a sluggish flow and skinny Instrumentation. A lot of the tracks don't really go anywhere. Tillman often comes off as babbling after a few rotations.

I am surprised by how much I enjoyed HNDRXX. It's Future's most diverse set to date due to it's R&B/Pop influence. It reminds me of his slower songs on his 2nd album, "Honest". Like the rest of Future's discography, it's the sound that drives the music. The production is warming, tight, and most of all, enjoyable. His raspy autotune has grown on me the further I get into his discography. It's hard to use autotune and sound enjoyable. And as I've stated before in previous reviews, ... read more
Wet's EP is a shallow, simple listen. But, it's very enjoyable. It has a pleasing, emotional sound that keeps me coming back. The lyrics alone are by no means special, but the production fits to form a subtle yet powerful vibe. With only 4 tracks, there isn't much else to say other than that it's brief but pleasant.

Not a big fan of Prima Donna's sound. The repetitive themes and hooks only make things less interesting. Gang rap is arguably the oldest sub-genre of hiphop. So, in what ways can Vince Staples deliver without beating a dead horse? This is what "Summertime 06" nearly perfected. Staples was able to rap about gang violence while making it sound like something new. Not to mention, No ID produced one of the best sounding hiphop albums in years...

Future's 2nd album is on the more consistent side of of his discography. There are not many parts of "Honest" that I strongly dislike. His energy and sound continue to entertain me more than most rappers. The album has some solid beats too. The topics are a bit ridiculous, but that has never been the reason I like this guy. Future knows his sound and can use his autotune effectively to keep me listening.

DS2 is explosive. It's an entertaining listen that is meant for loud speakers. There are some outstanding tracks on this one. However, with 18 tracks adding up to over an hour, there is room for cutting. At the very least, there are 4-5 tracks didn't have to make the cut. They don't stand out nor meet the expectations of the album's other 10 or so tracks. This mainly goes down to Future's repetitiveness.

56 nights holds some of future's best performances. His flow is spectacular. Besides two or three missteps, these tracks hit hard. Future is best when he minimizes his repetitiveness. It's hard to stop the intensity when he gets rolling.

"Thank me later" shows how much Drake has progressed on every level since this release... Character is a huge part of Drake's music, and it is evident that Drake's current style hasn't blossomed yet.

Young Thug's Barter 6 does not have as distinct of a sound as JEFFERY. This tape is a solid listen with a handful of thumping tracks. Unfortunately, too many of the songs tracks are hard to set apart from another. Much of it sounds the same, which is especially harmful to an artist that doesn't place much focus on the writing.

Drake bounces back from "Views" with "More Life". It's his most diverse release to date. With 22 tracks, the playlist is surprisingly consistent. The production flows well and transitions well into the next track. Rather than an album with overarching highs, "More life" succeeds in its subtlety. There are not many standout tracks, but it's almost as if the playlist was never meant for this. "More Life" is meant to be a diverse, consistent project with a ... read more
The xx corrects their problems from their sophomore album on their third release "I See You". "Coexist" suffered from the band's failure to branch out from their debut. Their second release felt like a watered down blueprint of their first, resulting in a project that felt unmotivated. However, on their most recent release, "I See You", The xx fixes these issues by creating a more colorful sound. The album feels more "poppy", but that doesn't take away ... read more
Killer Mike & EL-P present their most explosive album yet. Each release gets progressively stronger in every possible way. Most notably, EL-P's work blew me away. Both rappers combine to create an hour of pure adrenaline while successfully rapping on interesting topics. If you are a fan of the genre, there is not much to dislike about these two by now...

While I respect how focused Solange is on "A Seat At The Table", I fail to invest into the music. Solange successfully wraps this project into a unified body, but as for sound of this record, I don't feel anything special about this. The production is basic and dragging. A simple beat of a drum is most of what is presented. And her hush voice falls short of filling the large amount dead space that is needed to make this project feel lively. And even if theres a time in the album where ... read more
