Porcupine Tree - Lightbulb Sun

Lightbulb Sun is an interesting album, in someways it further refines the transition to catchier Rock that has been going on since Signify creating some of their best work, in the form of Four Chords That Made a Million and Where We Would Be, however it also splits the album. This split comes in the second half, starting with Hatesong and culminating with the 13 minute Russia on Ice, we get far more experimental tracks. While i have nothing against these songs, in fact i enjoy all of them, it is the tonal shift that bugs me. Other albums have been split in two to create a poppier side and an experimental side, however ones i can think of, David Bowie's Heroes and Kate Bush's Hounds of Love (just 2 examples) simply do a much better job of making their catchier stuff more fun and their experimental stuff more engaging.

I definitely enjoy this album, but when PT mixes everything together like on later projects it just comes together far more seamlessly
