Skin Theory - Libertine / Frying Pan

While I do think the BCNR and Black Midi influence is pretty glaring, especially on the breakdown in the middle of Frying Pan there is quite a bit of stuff to like here. There's a lot of instrumental moments that do demonstrate that chemistry between the members that makes a band like BCNR great. I do wish the ideas were a bit more refined though. It feels like the most interesting ideas here are the ones we spend the least time with and the vocals sometimes just aren't strong enough to tie all ... read more
Craic Boi Mental - Autistic Legend 2

Craic delivers and expands on everything that made the first Autistic Legend great with the super fun energy, sticky hooks and the smooth and bouncy production. The old school hip hop samples on a lot of these tracks are an interesting addition too that works really nicely to add to the catchiness of tracks like Psycho Craic, Antisocial and Amazing. This project is absolutely one of the best he's done and will absolutely be in rotation.

Favourite tracks: I Nearly Quit, Antisocial, Psycho ... read more

Tyler, The Creator - CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST: The Estate Sale

The material on the deluxe of a 16 track album being just as good as the actual album is not something you see often. These aren't half baked ideas cobbled together for 25 minutes of something to hold the fans over. These are songs that for one reason or another didn't fit on the album, but clearly had a lot of care put into them and it pays off.

Favourite Tracks: STUNTMAN, WHAT A DAY, WHARF TALK, DOGTOOTH, SORRY NOT SORRY
Least Fav: BOYFRIEND, GIRLFRIEND

Peter Brötzmann - Machine Gun

As someone who already finds it a bit challenging to get into the most critically acclaimed, more avant-garde jazz records, this was on an entirely different level. First of all, you'd have a hard time finding a jazz album louder than this. Throughout the entire runtime I felt like I was being attacked, the instruments reminding me more of the wails and grunts of wounded animals than instruments at points. Listening to the 17 minute title track almost gives me the vibe of watching an old ... read more
Aksak Maboul - Un Peu De L’Âme Des Bandits

Wow who would have thought a challenge about the albums getting more obscure and weird would get more obscure and weird. This is the third Avant-Prog album here and my favourite one so far. I think what makes this album so special is instead of feeling like you're watching something that is weird and crazy from the sidelines, it pulls you in and makes you feel like you're the weird and crazy one. This album is very immersive. Like other Avant-Prog albums it has a lot of wild switch-ups in ... read more

Hi Ken! I listened to your lil EP and it was interesting. I was caught off guard by the lean back into pop songwriting and arrangements compared to your last album. On the last record, you started tapping into a sound I had never heard before, especially on “You’re On Your Own Now”, but with the new EP, it feels a bit derivative. What I go to Ken M music for is emotional earnestness, subtle experimentation, and Daniel Johnston-like DIY sensibilities. With that said, this EP didn’t have much of that in my eyes. All perspective though, of course, and I look forward to seeing what you do in the future!

Hey Ken!! To celebrate me now having 400 albums rated and reviewed I'm gonna be putting together a community list and I of course need your help. It'd mean so much to me if you could help.

Whats a song that makes you have the feeling of ascending into a into another world or into space, a song that makes you feel like you have left your body and you are inside of the music. I'll start first! MY EYES off of Travis Scott's new album 100% does that for me.

Also feel free to give an explanation for your choice, Thank you!
