This is probably album of the year for me and the competition is very tough. What a good album. Even if it's one of Kikuo's weaker projects, this is a really good listen to get into vocaloid and Kikuo's work, a rather mainstream album that has both style and substance. Many songs here are surprisingly very dancey compared to past songs, which isn't a complaint and I very much appreciate it. Everything has something to offer, the highlight for me being Voices of Svaahaa, my favorite track off ... read more
My optimism on the album is oddly growing and it could be my favorite if they continue to surprise with things like this and The Dumb Song. It's even the best ballad they got, beating out The Click's 3 bonus tracks in that regard. Bit preachy but it actually feels grounded and more real, even without context of what the boys are going through. Hope Gary gets better
Never thought I'd say this grew on me to dethrone OK Orchestra for what I see as AJR's best album (or maybe I listened to too much AJR too quickly). I still think Way Less Sad and Christmas In June are leagues ahead but this is way more consistent than every single one of the band's albums.
Next Up Forever and Finale are the main highlights in production for actually being the most bearable and using the old-timey vocals in a somewhat charming way and as derivative as Neotheater may be, I can ... read more
I am happy to say that I love this. How To Be A Human Being is a strong album and I haven't found myself hating any of the tracks. The millennial songwriting here is some of the strongest I've seen and heard, the production bounces all over the place and you can get a feel for the what the characters are going through with their songs. It's a great album and I'm happy to have listened to it.
Best Tracks: Pork Soda, Mama's Gun, The Other Side of Paradise, Take a Slice
Worst Track: Agnes
Just listen to the deluxe edition. Has some of the worst tropes from millennium pop and electro-pop that bring the project down with whatever charm the brothers can bring with said production. The squeaky clean production doesn't help either and makes it feel disingenuous.
Best Tracks: Sober Up, Call My Dad
Worst Track: Drama
Best Tracks with Deluxe Edition: Sober Up, Call My Dad, Role Models, Normal, Pretender
This album was unfortunately a mixed bag for me. The transition from song-to-song is amazing and easily Glass Animal's best flow throughout, being a fun vibe. Even the interludes are cute and add to the experience of the album. However, it is just a fun album.
The band's songwriting took a massive hit here compared to Zaba and How To Be A Human Being, with many songs feeling like they are nothing with the fun, millennial writing I know they can pull off.
Best Tracks: Tokyo Drifting, Your Love ... read more
Jeez, how am I supposed to rate this album? It both grew and shrunk on me.
OK Overture is the best overture AJR has made but it feels cheap, along with bad usage of World's Smallest Violin and the lack of 3 O'Clock Things in it, which makes the okay-ish score I gave it feels off. The first half you can tune out (with the exception of My Play), and while it isn't as grating as previous releases before the album, it doesn't change how meh I am with them at best.
The back half of the album ... read more
