This was certainly an interesting listen. I'll be honest, with it's length, and how much this album kinda throws at you, I didn't get through it in one sitting. While it is pretty skeletal in its essence, there's a lot to digest with the unorthodox production and Aesop's intricate beyond comprehension lyricism. Oddities aside, I do really like what this album goes for. The character in Aesop's vocal performances is really an enticing feature of this album. For one, his cadence works phenomenally with the type of music he makes and the rhyme schemes that he's constantly breaking through with are mind boggling, but it's far from some lyrical miracle shit. If it wasn't evident by his other work, Aesop is an absolute nerd when it comes to hip hop, and that's a lot of what makes his music so special.
My favourites were "Commencement at the Obedience Academy", "Big Bang", "Oxygen", "Skip Town", "Spare a Match", How to Be a Carpenter", and "No Splash". The beat on "Dinner with Blockhead" was fire too I wish he made a full track of it. Other than that, I was hoping for more from the Slug feature but it wasn't really that special unfortunately. This album is kinda patchy, but when it delivers, it does so awesomely. Aesop has more consistent work but this is an enjoyable listen regardless.
