Really not a bad track, just a dumbed down version of what all 3 of these guys are capable of.
This album is pretty damn awesome. In my on and off journey to complete the Bladee discography, I'm surprised I haven't checked out Crest earlier, given this is my favourite era of DG and Ecco2k shocked me with the great E. Bladee and Ecco obviously mesh together flawlessly given their personal relationship and musical adjacencies, but to see them go track for track is just great. The charm and good energy just seeps at the waveforms of this album every second of the way. Despite ... read more
Solid effort from Freddie to add to his ever consistent discography. It's not so grand as some of his best work but is a worthy release nonetheless. Compared to it's counterpart, You Only Live 2wice, this album feels like it has a bit more of a presence, particularly with heavy hitters like "Brick Fees" or the BNYX produced "Steel Doors". While "Status" serves as an intriguing intro, things start of really strong with "Cosmo Freestyle", one of ... read more
I kinda had a weird experience with this album. At first I kinda found it dull with highlights here and there; a worse version of the already one-dimensional Red Light. However, upon an immediate relisten, I came around to a lotta the stuff here. I will say. It's probably the most uncreative Bladee album I've heard, but it's lack of boundary-pushing sorta restrains it to one lane of decency...mostly. Certain tracks like "Mallwhore Freestyle", "Close", and the ... read more
There are two sides to this album. Some really great, polarising, refreshing hyperpop and some melodically insufferable, feature-ruining ear sores. When this album shines it shines. Songs like "Backseat", "Out of My Head", "Tears", "Femmebot" are glitchy, stellar, and super infectious. The good outweighs the bad but holy. Some of these features...what the hell was Charli thinking? "I Got It" is just all over the place and the features kill any ... read more
Expected by perhaps nobody, Schlatt released a Christmas album that captures the essence of Christmas as seamlessly as the holiday gems of the 60s and prior. It's refreshing in every sense of the word and puts the vast majority of modern Christmas releases to utter shame (especially the trash they play at my retail job). It might seem silly to critically look at a release like this, but you've got every reason to when the production value, passion, and vocal talent is seeping out of ... read more
Tha Doggfather is not the sophomore slump that many claim it to be, but it is kind of a mixed bag. On one hand this album delivers some of Snoop's most well developed and snazzy songs ever, some just standard listenable west coast songs, and notable duds. I also feel like the first half of this album is far stronger and carries a lot more momentum. "Doggfather" immediately became one of my favourites of Snoop with it's cut to the chase attitude and insanely catchy hook. ... read more
I knew exactly what I was getting with GNX but it's still Kendrick's worst release. To be expected, it was a lot of "Not Like Us" tuned stuff with some more conscious stuff sprinkled here and there. It's focused, to the point, and unapologetic, but it's not striking me like previous Kendrick albums. Maybe that's because I'm past my listening phase of the guy, but some of Kendrick's performances here are pretty dry, and the production is just ... read more
The Bends is the most organic and emotionally charged Radiohead album I've heard thus far and I love it for that. Creatively it's not advanced as OKC or Kid A but honestly that does it some favours. It's a very core, rooted album that carries as much instrumental heft as it does emotional weight. The vocals are some of if not the best I've heard on a Radiohead album here. Electrifying hooks all over this thing and backed by the powerful instrumentation, there's plenty ... read more
I guess I'll be the one to say it. I can't complain that one of my favourite artists has gotten more widespread exposure through this song on tiktok and alike platforms, but I can still complain. It's a great song for sure don't get me wrong, but it's unfortunate when this is strictly what a lot of people know her for when Liz has mounds of incredible music in her catalogue. I hate bitching about it but it just irks me. I really like this song, I've played it many ... read more
An upfront, brolic trap album that takes a lot of the A$AP charm and shines it through Ferg's lens. While I prefer Still Striving overall, this is probably his most no-nonsense release. This album is loaded with bangers, great features, and solid, ahead of its time trap production. Great tracks like "Let It Go", "Shabba", "Lord", and "Fergivicious" give this album a ton of momentum early on. Ignoring the dumpster fire that is 4:02, this momentum ... read more
While Amplified is an exciting solo debut from Tip, The Renaissance is cohesive and pure in form. In association with its name and sound, this album is much more of a rooted hip-hop album by comparison, appropriate for the time in which it came out in Tip's career. It's seamless. The fluidity of this track list is insane, tracks just flow into the next with great track after great track. It takes itself perfectly seriously, providing the longevity of Q-Tip's songwriting ability ... read more
Blackrain is one of the best hip-hop songs of all time. If you haven't listened do yourself a favour.
A very appreciable slice of art rock that didn't blow me away, but also gave me no complaints. I mean I guess it felt kinda thin at times, and while it might be naive to pin that on the 'art' music formula, it's a gripe small enough that I couldn't care to let it impact my experience. The instrumentation is clean and the vocals feel really down to earth. There's a ton of personality from front to back that rides this albums tonal dynamic up and down. But ... read more
Without hesitation I can call this one of the greatest love songs ever. The lyricism, the delicate instrumentation, it's all pure poetry. Slow dancing with someone to this would actually fix me.
What annoys me most about this album is how good it was supposed to be like we really got false advertising. Uzi announced this outta nowhere like it was gonna be some banger surprise project and in promotion locked up all his album covers with that symbol to make some greater statement. It's also the (pretty much only by name) sequel to Eternal Atake, the far superior and more anticipated album. So what did we get? A poor, half-assed 'effort' that gives people a great reason to ... read more
