Magical is an understatement. On every musical front, this album delivers immensely. Marvin's vocals, subtle background vocals, the instrumentation, the EMOTION like holy shit. This album deserves all the praise it gets. Multiple times I covered my hands with my face because I was about to break down at how emotionally penetrative this album is. In it's reflection of life, the world, and everything in between, Marvin concisely breaks down what's truly important, what we truly ... read more
Don't call yourself a fan of the Morgue if you ain't fw Mula.
After Pedokami got outed and as of how he's been handling the situation, I've lost pretty much all respect for the guy, which is unfortunate given how much talent he had. That said, I can contently say it's SLEEZY'S ERA NOW. This mf always been hard and people wanna act like he wasn't as essential to City Morgue as Zilla was, but I digress. from 13 SONGS 2 DIE 2 to 2 HIGH 2 DIE to CrashOutBoyz, ... read more
I'm having trouble deciding whether to rate this a 7.5 or an 8 so I'll just bite the bullet and choose. David Gilmour's latest solo effort is everything you can expect from a Gilmour solo effort and perhaps more. The hooks and guitar leads are electrifying, and the common gripe being Gilmour's shoddy old voice isn't something that bothers me. It might not be appropriate but I'm going to consider the bonus two digital songs, "Yes, I Have Ghosts", and the ... read more
Cool J dropping something this solid in 2024 is certainly unexpected. There's really no gimmick here, no bullshit, just a very pure hip-hop release. Q-Tip's awesome production and LL's ability to not sound dated make this an extremely well rounded album. It's one of those projects that is essentially near flawless, but obviously is not the most amazing thing. Just consistently great material front to back. He defies the notion that golden age rappers struggle to put out ... read more
Aviary is one of the most interesting sonic journeys I've ever been on. With her unorthodox song structuring and soundblending, Julia has been an intriguing artist for a little while know. Since initially checking out her Loud City Song, I've been blown away by the material she's put out. This is by far the longest album I've heard of hers, some might argue too long, but I think it works in its length. If you can sit through the 1 and a half hours of experimental enigmas, ... read more
I can't tell if I'm misunderstanding some 60s norms or if this album is blatantly incestuous.
Nobody wants to listen to an album called Kissin' Cousins. It's a shame that some of the songs which are musically sound here like "Kissin' Cousins (No. 2)"l "One Boy, Two Little Girls", and "Kissin' Cousins" are kind of ruined by their uncomfortable lyrics. There is some decent material though that keeps this from being a batch of awkward ... read more
Figured I'd give Smokepurpp a chance since this seemed to be his most well received project. It's eh. Certainly has some bangers, "Streets Love Me" and "Hold It" being my favourites, but it's not all killer no filler. This music is extremely formulaic and really effortless, which can definitely create some fun music, but it also creates quite a bit of forgettable or straight up bad stuff. Nearly the entire last 5 tracks of the album were pretty bad with songs ... read more
The longest non-deluxe album I've ever listened to and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Many people would probably find a more minimalistic ambient album of this length to really drag, but I didn't find that listening. It was honestly an amazing and peaceful 2 and a half hours of bliss. There are certainly better tracks than others, some that offer more polished, interesting soundscapes, but it really feels like everything has a place on this album. Ambient is totally my thing, especially ... read more
This is my first experience with this group and I have to say this is one of the most second half-heavy albums I've ever heard. At first I saw the vision but I wasn't too into it. "Practice Makes Perfect" is an appropriate, moody, but musically awkward intro that I did enjoy on a second listen. "French Film Blurred" actually turned out to be one of my favourites revisiting it, probably being the strongest first half song in my opinion. There's just something ... read more
Not bad but leaves a lot to be desired. The beat selection for one is pretty good and is very largely what gives a lot of this album its momentum. That said, Lone is still a pretty uninteresting vocalist, and tracks often suffer from it. It also doesn't help that the mixing feels really unpolished, leaving Lone to feel completely beneath the beat, evident on a song like "THRILL". One thing that makes me feel really iffy on this album is that the vast majority of songs I ... read more
This album's kinda weird. It sounds like it was crafted by a huge history dork, which I wouldn't be surprised if Jeff Lynne was. On ELO 1 aka No Answer, ELO take a primitive approach to what would later epitomise their sound. The orchestral aspect of this album feels rawer and more stripped down, and there's far more instrumental material. It's not necessarily all over the place, staying in a relatively consistent sonic lane, but songs seems to bounce all over the place, ... read more
This is probably my favourite Yung Lean project yet. While it doesn't deliver his absolute best songs, Frost God is the most consistent and perhaps the most fun Lean album I've listened to. I've really wanted a Lean project that's all killer for a long time and I think I've found it. My biggest problem with his discography, while definitely enjoying it, was the lack of consistent in his albums. They would deliver some really phenomenal material were thrown off cohesion ... read more
In preparation for the ELO concert I'm going to real soon, I thought it'd clean up a bit more of their discography. There isn't really a gimmick to this one other than having some disco influence, but it's just another great ELO record. At times sonically they even feel a bit more reserved, letting more slower, less in your face tracks to find their way on the album like "Need Her Love" and "Midnight Blue". This isn't a bad thing and while it ... read more
The deluxe tracks are a bit more consistent and less nonsensical than the base album. As I mentioned in my review, some of the best parts of F-1 Trillion came from the tracks without features, and that's the entire thing here. While we do get a breakthrough into a more pure sounding Post, this stuff still isn't great. "Fallin' In Love", and "Go To Hell" were both pretty awesome tho. The rest is fine, mostly.
Lee HendriX$on is a name so under the radar you'll probably find more information dming him on instagram as opposed googling him. It's cool to check artists out like that. I first heard Lee on his song "Reptile", scrolling through songs produced by F1lthy. The beat is absolutely insane and the guy pops off on it. I thought (and still think) the song was so good that I racked up over 100 plays on it. I *think* this project is a collection of what Lee probably thinks is some ... read more
