A quick care package of tracks that I didn't even know existed. Redman still has the energy, and while his rapping isn't prime, his pen is still pretty sharp. The cadence is still there as well. These songs sit in a weird place though that a lot of songs that hip hop veterans make in the modern age lie. The production tries to pertain to the OG sound with the use of newer tools, and the result sounds more dated, stale, and less unfulfilling than most things that came from the 90s. It's not bad, ... read more
If it wasn't evident at Kiln House, Peter Green really was holding back Fleetwood Mac's potential (sorry not sorry). From what was as tunnel vision blue rock as can be now turned into a much more expansive, accessible, and quality sound. Future Games takes the same soft, more refined qualities of Kiln House, though it can feel a bit stylistically scattered at times. "Woman of 1000 Years" is a really smooth opener. A grand tone setter. "Morning Rain" is also a bit nice bit a ... read more
Little River Band is a group that I rarely every hear talk about, and it's unfortunate. Recommended by my very own mother for their chill vibes and 70s rock charm, I had to check them out. This is really good stuff. Seriously no misses here and so much amazingly constructed music. Given the presence of other more popular bands at the time, LRB don't bring the *most* unique sound, but they certainly execute things super well. From lush instrumentation to catchy hooks to gorgeous vocal harmonies, ... read more
Ignacio is the soundtrack Entends Tu Les Chiens Aboyer?, renamed as such two years after its release. Admittedly, I mistakenly neglected this album for it's very unappealing cover (not the one you'll see on this site—this one is kickass), which is a very of the times display of the movies character's...just look it up and you'll see what I mean. Of course, album covers are a very important component of one's music, but it's obviously only the first step. Disregarding the album cover and ... read more
Better straight boring than completely nonsensical I guess, though "How Would You Like to Be" is utter trash. A lot of this stuff is surprisingly smooth, but it so clearly lacks the drive to be anything great, and thus lands in the middle of the road.
What feels more like (but isn't, literally) Vangelis' definitive studio debut introduces sounds that we pretty much never see from him again in his entire solo discography. Admittedly I've had a go at listening to this before, stopping at the first track because of it's rock-oriented sound. It really wasn't something that I thought I needed out of the guy, but I was pretty wrong, as on a revisit, "Come On" turned out to be one of my favourites on the entire projects. A few of this ... read more
In sound collage fashion, this album doesn't draw many people in, both in enjoyment and popularity. I mean I didn't even know it existed until now. Vangelis' debut studio album is probably not what you would've thought it was, nor is it a common way to initiate that train. Fais Que Ton Rêve Soit Plus Long Que La Nuit, translating to "Let Your Dreams Be Longer Than The Night", is a reflection and sonic encompassing of the May 68 protests, a historical event I was also unfamiliar ... read more
Vince is back baby.
Vince is one of those artists I can always expect something at least decent from, but this project feels more focused than a couple of his recent efforts, Ramona Park and his self titled to name em. That said, it's still not boundary breaking. While this does deliver some of Vince's best efforts in a while, it still rounds out to just being solid. Amazing songs like "Black&Blue", "Shame On The Devil", and " Étouffée" are just ... read more
Uzi going full Cod Zombies on our asses was one of the hardest things of last year. Best song on Pink Tape no doubt in my mind.
Phenomenal song and perhaps Trippie's best effort dipping his toes into rock.
Despite providing a few of some of Trippie's most well-rounded, strongest songs, ALLTY4 is packed with uninspired, lifeless, effortless bloated trash—the type of stuff you find all over Pegasus. First I'll talk about the good stuff because there's definitely notable stuff here. "Leray" opened the album fine, a pretty typical but okay track, but it was "Who Needs Love" that made me think this project would be way better than it is. A great banger with some great ... read more
As a long time fan of Bishu I was beyond hyped to get a full length album from him, though the lead singles "SO ABSURD", "ENEMY", and "DO OR DIE" had me skeptical of the quality. I can't say I was totally into any of them, particularly iffy on "SO ABSURD". In a full listen though I guess they grew on me because I was way more into them. Beyond the singles, the rest is actually pretty quality stuff. "RECIPE FOR DISASTER", "WYAWYD" were ... read more
My second favourite album yes I prefer this over Plastic Beach. I gravitate more toward this album for the type of sound that it presents. While Demon Days is an untoppable near flawless effort from Gorillaz, their self titled is extremely well rounded. I'm a bigger fan of the hip-hop influence on this project than I am a fan of the synthwave influence on PB, but that's not to discredit that album because it's like millimetres behind this one.
The substance here is just so infectious. By ... read more
I had a review going for this album but unfortunately it just killed itself so let's run it back. ALSO FOR THE LOVE OF GOD GET THIS BACK TO A MUST LISTEN!!! Almighty So 2 is here after countless delays. I'm surprised we even ended up getting the album since it seemed like such a lost cause for so long, but hey. This thing is absolutely insane. Since 4NEM, I've been highly anticipating new music from Sosa. 4NEM took the hard energy of his best earlier work with an adaptation of the newer trap ... read more
Pretty standard for a dnb release but solid nonetheless. But what the FUCK is that noise at the end of "Grinding of the Teeth" good god headphone users beware. Favourites were "Death of the Endless", "Flickering in the Gloom", and "Monolithic Cyan Tsunami".
I actually enjoy a fair bit of Gunna's music and praise a couple of his projects quite highly, but really this has almost no substance. There's some good production here and there but the entire track list is pretty much copy and paste mediocrity. Also that Leon Bridges feature on "clear my rain" has to be one of the most low effort performances I've heard in music ever.
There where times listening to this where I didn't even realise that a song played because it was so nothing. It ... read more
As mentioned in some of my previous reviews of Vangelis, he is very much the music of my childhood. My dad's always been a frequent listener of the guy. Appropriately, I listened to this album in full with him while watching our Apple TV's beautiful drone view landscapes and it was a pleasure.
With almost every listen I get a blast of nostalgia from songs I forgot I knew. That's immediately the case with this album with the opener, "I'll Find My Way Home", an absolutely amazing song. ... read more
