Somehow I missed this bbno$ single but holy shit this is angelical. I love this side of him—the type of stuff you see on another great song like "Help Herself". I absolutely adore bbno$'s fun style — have for years — but this is just as pleasant, seeing him explore more solemn, melancholy approaches. The production is stellar and isn't just a tunnel visioned sad piano track. Both the synth arps, strings, and soundscapes in general that gradually develop flesh out the ... read more
I'm tellin y'all Cochise has been on since Benbow Crescent. The personality, the bouncy cadence, the super fun production, he's just a bop machine. This EP isn't his best but it's a cool collection of an even further display of consistency. "LUKAKU" was my favourite. "CHAMPIONS LEAGUE" also further displays that Cochise can do rage, evident on some of his previous work. He always knows how to ride the current wave but still standing out and being himself. Props. Guy needs ... read more
"Bitch I'm Illmatic" are never words that should be uttered from MGK's mouth.
After loving the charm of Business as Usual, I had to check this one out. Let's get right to it.
First of all, wow. The opening track, "Dr. Heckyll & Mr. Jive" is absolutely stellar. I thought the verses were solid enough but the chorus with those crisp, gorgeous vocal harmonies and the perfectly supportive instrumental work are all put together wonderfully. I was immediately blown away this was one of the best things I've heard from the group without question. "Settle Down ... read more
This album fucks. This album is a monstrous musical reunion between music's biggest superstar couple, and it works really damn well. I've always loved "APESHIT", a banger with great trap production and those quavo ad-libs are just the cherry on top. Since getting into that song I've always been intrigued by this project, and rightfully so. It's so well put together, the production is defined, grand, full, and just well rounded in pretty much every aspect of it. I will say though that ... read more
**Stones Deep Dive Pt. 20**
While It's Only Rock 'N' Roll went for a more fun time, Black and Blue takes things a step further, following a similar carefree image but with an even polarising face value. In doing so, it's a bit more rough around the edges, both with its sound and in some cases topically. Their cover of "Cherry Oh Baby" is perhaps the worst thing I've heard from this until this point. I can't hate on it maliciously cause it's like actually funny lmao, but it still ... read more
The ratings and general reception of this mixtape are so obviously influenced by an immense Kendrick bias that it's actually just corny. I won't act like I'm not choosing to listen to Kendrick 95 times out of 100 over Cole, and I vastly prefer him as an artist, but the lens that people are viewing this mixtape under just because he threw a shot at everybody's conscious rap baby TPAB is plain dumb. I firmly believe that without the circumstances, this project wouldn't hold the image it currently ... read more
**Stones Deep Dive Pt. 19**
This has become much less of a deep dive and more of a chipping away at the Stones discography when I feel like it but whatever. Right now is a feel like it time.
The goal with Goats Head soup was to take a step back to focus on a more linear, refined sound, a goal which in my eyes definitely succeeded, delivering a healthy, cohesive set of more laid back rock songs. Similarly, It's Only Rock 'n' Roll is a stylistic step down from Exile, except instead of following ... read more
This soundtrack is elite. Just rewatched/relistened in preparation for Moana 2 later this year and holy shit this nostalgia had me feeling things. I always loved this movie and the soundtrack is astronomically catchy. Plus the intro "Tulou Tagaloa" is pure magic. When I heard it in the teaser for Moana 2 I got such intense chills that they're resurfacing with me writing this. Legendary. If they mess up Moana 2 they're never gonna hear the end of it from me istg.
The bulk of Lil B's catalogue is largely comprised of extremely long mixtapes, many of which you could assume to be next to effortless given the rate and quantity of music that he consistently puts out year after year. What draws me into mixtapes such as this and the Illusions of Grandeur projects are how surprisingly put together they are. God's Father is definitely underlined by the sort of carefree, vibe, not taking itself too seriously but still presenting a collection of well-produced ... read more
I plan on checking the whole project out in the next couple days cause I've always absolutely LOVED this song. Kinda a no-brainer banger, but the infectious flows, ad-libs, and beat all come together for such a great trap banger. Cooked.
I listened to album ages ago, and after a long overdue full revisit, I figured I'd write at least something about it. I don't have time nor the patience to do a full in depth review right now (it's 4:30 in the morning) but I'll highlight the most important stuff.
(Changed rating 93 --> 95)
I carry a lot of Nostalgia with this album. I first listened to it when I was first starting to really care about listening to and checking out new music. Not only has the fun I've had with this music ... read more
Queen is back with another monster of an album and it kind of feels all over the place. Let's get right to it.
"AMERIICAN REQUIEIM" had a lot going for it musically. It's grand, anthemic, and sure as hell a pretty good mood setter. That said, it kept feeling it was right about to peak with some hard hitting drum entry but it just stopped every time that was about to happen. It's a great display of what the album has to offer though so I have to give it a lot of credit. ... read more
Buddy's album Superghetto released in 2022 was a great discovery for me. It was one of my top hip hop albums of that year and one that was criminal overseen. The production, charisma, flows, focused lyrics, everything about it was so well put together. He makes very soulful, groovy, but sometimes harder more gassed bangers, all while encompassed by some pretty conscious topics. From the first couple tracks, I knew I was gonna get a similar treatment with Don't Forget To Breathe.
On this one, ... read more
It actually works for me for some reason. 2 Artists who shouldn't have chemistry over a sound that shouldn't work but it does. Down.
This ain't the 21 Pilots I know and that couldn't be more of a good thing.
