Yung Lean - Psykos
75

Edit: 80 --> 75, has a bit of recency bias when this came out but I still think it's a really solid project and "Still" remains one of my favourites form both guys.

Hold on...POST PUNK??? ALT ROCK???? Well this came out of nowhere. Or maybe it didn't idk I don't follow either of em on socials. Anyway, Lean and Bladee are two artists I've been quite intrigued by in the recent year or so, despite not being super into a chunk of their music. They both bring an ... read more

Elvis Presley - Girls! Girls! Girls!
50

It's actually not as nonsense as the first track had me thinking it'd be, but it's still very watered down. While many of Elvis' 60s soundtracks were just straight guff, this one's just rather boring. Doesn't sound bad inherently but there's pretty much nothing other than "A Boy Like Me, A Girl Like You" or "Because of Love" that I get out of this album that I don't already get better with piles of other Elvis songs. It's kinda funny how back in the day they always ... read more

Clams Casino - 32 Levels
75

I absolutely love Clams Casino's production from what I've heard with his recurring Lil B collaborations, so I just had to check this one out.

"Level 1" is exactly what I thought I'd get with this album with that signature angelic female vocal sample. It's got some dope introductory ad-libbing by Lil B too. With Clams in the director seat, he brings out some really good qualities in Lil B. This is especially apparent on "Witness" which is so unusually structured for a Lil ... read more

Gunna - WUNNA (Deluxe)
90

These deluxe tracks significantly amp up the hype of the album. I really don't know what it is about Gunna that makes him appeal to me, but the no-brainer, cleanly produced, fun cadence, catchy flows n' lyrics, etc, make me drawn in. This is him at his best with this simple but effective formula, especially "200 FOR LUNCH" and "FEIGNING" but hey the whole deluxe set is just really great.

Post Malone - Wow.
80

One of Posty's best bangers.

Simon & Garfunkel - Bridge Over Troubled Water / Keep the Customer Satisfied
100

Absolutely AMAZING. It took me a couple revisits of this song for it to fully sink in but it is phenomenal. Every aspect of it is gorgeous and it has perfect progression as a track.

MIKE & Tony Seltzer - Pinball
65

It’s an alright slice of hip-hop that I’m really not urged to revisit the majority of. Functions well as a short album but at the same time it just breezed by and I didn’t really feel too much substance from it. “Two Door” was an obvious standout for me and “2k24 Tour” had a cool sample but nothing else was jumping out at me. Not bad, just alright.

Bob Marley & The Wailers - Kaya
85

As his well known compilation album labels him, Bob Marley is without a doubt, a legend. He really needs no introduction. After listening to “Is This Love” yesterday on repeat, I was prompted to check out its album of origin as I was struggling to comprehend how good it sounded. Of course I’ve listened to his more popular songs countless times over, but never explored further until I heard Exodus and Rastaman Vibration, the first of which is a reggae masterpiece with greatest ... read more

J. Cole - Born Sinner (Deluxe)
80

The deluxe tracks are solid and mostly keep the momentum the album had but "Is She Gon Pop" is stellar.

90

It's a real shame I haven't delved into the dnb scene sooner. As a music producer coming up on 6 years of the hobby and producing my fair share of the genre, it is the subgenre of electronic music that I maybe admire the most. It's always lush, spacious. Combining breathtaking soundscapes with hard hitting drum breaks is something that works so well and never gets old.

Now regarding this album, it's absolutely stellar. The version I listened to on Apple Music did not have "Newlove" ... read more

Vangelis - L'Apocalypse des Animaux
92

Compared to his later work, L'Apocalypse Des Animaux is fairly minimalistic for Vangelis. However, this is by no means a setback. In it's spacious, eerie, atmospheric tone, the soundtrack to the documentary of the same name is a gem in the greek mastermind's catalogue. While Vangelis always brings a unique sound to each album based on a thing or idea, this one is arguably one of his most unique. Not unique as in it's jarring, avant-garde or super left-field, but because of the sonical route it ... read more

Post Malone - White Iverson
100

One of the best rap songs of its kind. Goddamn I'll die on this hill but "White Iverson" is one of the most well-rounded, amazing sounding songs of the 2010s from it's gorgeous and genius production to the timelessly catchy vocals. Everything about it is just next level.

fallingwithscissors - the death and birth of an angel
70

I have never heard anything like this. I'm definitely not a metal indulger outside of City Morgue (adjacent in genres anyway), so I wasn't really sure how to feel checking out something of the like. This is insane. I don't know how far the boundaries stretch with this field of genres but it's shockingly unforgiving in its intensity. I totally respect it for that. "Atrophy:Angel" has some insane track progression and the second half of the song was really nice. I can conclude that yea, ... read more

Five Point Palm Exploding Heart Technique - Winter Break
80

Super cool for SnowyFighter to hit us all up with this one.

When executed well, I'm a big fan of post-punk, so I was intrigued to check out something of the like. I had fun with this. With the nature of the genre, I find certain aspects to be kind of patchy. In the first couple tracks, I really enjoyed the enthusiasm and hard hitting sound but I did find that patchiness to slip its way in from time to time.

This style of music as an EP works well, allowing a ton of cohesion for what might ... read more

Action Bronson - Dr. Lecter
80

Not sure who did those track ratings but wtf lol.

Yea this stuff is pretty great. I've heard all of Bronson's work from Mr. Wonderful and onward, but nothing before. Common for his catalogue, Bronson always raps over great production. Here he also brings some of his best flows ever, the two elements combining perfectly on songs like "Moonstruck" and "The Madness". "Ronny Coleman" and "Bag of Money" follow a similar criteria both with great execution. ... read more

ScHoolboy Q - BLUE LIPS
70

Schoolboy Q's new album has finally arrived. I don't have a ton to say but it's really cool that we're getting the long awaited album. Schoolboy Q is an artist who I can't say is the most exciting or innovative ever, but when he makes bangers they're damn good. I'm always down for a listen of his best material, so I'll always be intrigued by a new drop.

"Funny Guy" has that cool introductory tone but I quickly turned iffy with "Pop" which, while superficially pretty hard ... read more

Vangelis - Mask
85

As I've mentioned in previous Vangelis reviews, one of the Greek producer/composer's biggest strengths, if not his biggest, is his unparalleled ability to musically represent a thing, place, concept, or idea. As such, the majority of his projects are centred around *something* which is represented in the project's sound. Mask is yet another great example of this. Vangelis was alwyas fascinated by different interesting aspects of our world, this project being an exploration of the mask's history ... read more

Simon & Garfunkel - Bridge over Troubled Water
85

Bridge Over Troubled Water is one of the most sweet sounding albums I've ever heard. The duo has always had a pretty mature sound in their music but here it feels at its peak. It's fluid, gorgeous, soft, and damn iconic. There are a lot of really deep, solemn moments on here on tracks like "Bridge Over Troubled Water", "So Long, Frank Lloyd Wright", and "The Only Living Boy In New York", the last of which is my personal favourites. Paul and Art have always ... read more

Rihanna, Kanye West & Paul McCartney - FourFiveSeconds
90

I'll die on this hill. FourFiveSeconds is a bop beyond bops. You might expect something more from 3 of musics most influential artists ever, but it's beautifully simple. Also Paulina looks like an absolute rockstar in the music video. I used to think the song was just alright but I can happily say I'm now enlightened because this definitely one of the best pop hits of the 2010s. Bite me.

Eagles - One of These Nights
85

Eagles seem to sit in a weird place among music fans. I see a lot of loyalty but I see just as many people calling them tacky dad rock that aged poorly. I really gotta disagree. To me, their music has always followed a really refined and charming sound. From simple but effective instrumentation to great production to gorgeous vocal harmonies—they really did things right.

I quite enjoyed Hotel California so I figured I'd check out more from them, and I'm very pleased. This album carries ... read more
