The Rolling Stones - Goats Head Soup
80

**Stones Deep Dive Pt. 18**

This one is super consistent actually. Mick Jagger described this album as more reserved and laid back than Exile on Main St. and it is. In doing so, it feels less sparse, more focused, and well rounded. While the highlights on it's predecessor were great, Goats Head Soup is stronger as a front to back project.

"Dancing With Mr. D" was a decent opener, but "100 Years Ago" amps up the energy with your standard (but great) stones banger. ... read more

**Stones Deep Dive Pt. 17**

Yea so admittedly I got uninterested to check out more, not to suggest I didn't enjoy what I already heard while doing this deep dive but there was so much else I wanted to listen to. Gotta finish it eventually though so why not grind through it some more.

Comparatively speaking, this is a long one. Great opener with "Rocks Off". It's common for the Stones to have hard hitting, captivating opening tracks and that is no less the case here. "Tumbling ... read more

The Weeknd - My Dear Melancholy,
55

It's super basic sub bass heavy modern R&B but it's also not bad necessarily. I've always thought "Call Out My Name" was a decent song, that still stands. It's powerful but like it really isn't breaking any grounds for me to rate it so highly. I love the beat on "Try Me" but again it kinda falls victim to being super generic. I got tired of the sound after "Wasted Times", which had decent energy, but I really am not into "I Was Never There". It does ... read more

The Smiths - The Smiths
75

Compared to the other Smiths albums, I wasn't that impressed by this one. It had a couple streaks where I just thought it was alright, like "Reel Around the Fountain" to "Miserable life" and "Still Ill" to "What Difference Does It Make?". "Pretty Girls Make Graves" to "This Charming Man" (which isn't on the tracklist for some reason maybe Apple Music has a different version but I'm still considering it for this review), were really ... read more

Neil Young - Harvest
80

It's a really nice, chill slice of folk rocky type stuff. Neil Young's voice is very comforting and the instrumentation is simple but effective. "Out on the Weekend" is a really nice sweet intro which epitomises this album's qualities. "Heart of Gold" is an amazing classic which I've been addicted to recently and which prompted me to listen to this album. Young's vocals are just perfect for this type of song. From the emotional harmonica to the weeping slide guitar after the ... read more

MotΓΆrhead - Ace of Spades
75

Thank you Jason Blundell for introducing me to Ace of Spaces on Gorod Krovi. Yea so the title track is great, loved it since I first heard it skydiving into Stalingrad on BO3 Zombies. Bangs so hard I decided I'd check out the album by the same name. The rest of the tracks are basically the same thing with varying quality. You get the fast paced, dense guitar riffs with some really crazy [good] aggressive, struggle sounding vocals. Makes me wonder how someone can sing like this for their whole ... read more

Black Country, New Road - Live at Bush Hall
85

After adoring BCNR's previous work, I meant to check this live album out sooner. And well, yea. This is really good too. Each member is so evidently talented at their respective instruments which all blend together beautifully. They really feel like a refreshing Renaissance sort of rock music that just scratches every itch. These songs are charming, introspective, and magnificently arranged. "Up Song" is a phenomenal opening act with lush instrumentation and a generally upbeat town ... read more

Julia Holter - Have You in My Wilderness
85

If a lost ghost or spirit decided to make music, it'd sound like Julia Holter's. She's really something special. It's not as eerie as Loud City Song, my introduction to her, and while I do prefer that type of sound, this parallels in quality in its own right. It feels more joyous—less depressing—more heavenly. It's poppier, not as in sounds more like a standard pop album, but that the sound literally pops more. It's less droney and ominous which is a nice change of tone from Loud ... read more

Kendrick Lamar - good kid, m.A.A.d city (Deluxe Edition)

The bonus tracks are just as good. Massively Integral for the whole experience.

Elvis Presley - G.I. Blues
60

It's eh. A lot of the tracks are just okay or not good. "Pocketful of Rainbows" was great and of course throwing "Blue Suede Shoes" in the mix will always give it a boost. On Apple Music there was also the bonus track, "Tonight's All Right for Love" which was really good but way too short at 1:21. Some of it is kinda tacky and some of it is just mediocre Elvis. I can't complain that much but it just doesn't stand out at all in his catalogue.

Elvis Presley - Elvis Is Back!
80

Elvis' first album of the 60s was a solid one, fortunately so as A Date with Elvis was a super exhausted clump of middle road Elvis songs and there was need for new material. I don't have much to say about many particular tracks, because it's your classic formulaic Elvis, but it's a really solid track list. Super consistent other than "Fever", which is unique for Elvis but not really the type of song I want to hear from him. Not bad though. If I had to pick a couple favourites I'd say ... read more

Enya - Amarantine
75

Amarantine isn't Enya's strongest release, but it continues a consistency in her discography that many artists can't output. "If I Could Be Where You Are" is one of my favourite songs by her. My parents sometimes played it when I was younger so I'm immediately drawn to it. And biases aside its beautifully arranged, soft, and the transition between vocals perfectly paces the song. "Drifting" is another huge highlight not only on this album but in Enya's catalogue at large. ... read more

Vangelis - Chariots of Fire
80

I've never seen the movie but as a massive fan of so much of Vangelis' work prior to listening to this, I think it was a huge shame I haven't heard it until now. My dad used to play a ton of his music when I was younger so this really is the music of my childhood. It might come with a little bit of bias but this music is really special to me and I firmly believe it's very high quality stuff.

"Titles", the iconic theme music, is nicely concise and super initially captivating, a ... read more

Electric Light Orchestra - ELO 2
75

On the second self titled album, it seems like Jeff Lynne isn't quite sure what he wants to do, but nonetheless is the orchestration and musical talent evident. I was iffy about the first track, but right after, "Momma" is one of their best songs that I've heard. It's solemn, beautiful, and has some of my favourite vocal performances on an ELO song. "Roll Over Beethoven" is a really fun twist on the classic rock and roll track with tons of layers. This track really feels ... read more

Supertramp - Crime of the Century
90

Super excited to finally be checking out Supertramp. So many of their songs are from my childhood since they're one of my Dad's favourite bands and he played them a ton. Because of that, I recognised a few songs here, namely "School", "Bloody Well Right", and "Dreamer", all really great tracks.

There's something really special about Supertramp's music. It feels so damn passionate and created with so much love, consequently being one of the most enthralling bands ... read more

Kinda late to this cause I forgot to listen to it when it released but whateva. Tons of bops on this. I can confidently say I prefer this type of sound over what she did on Red Moon In Venus. There were a few weaker songs but overall its super consistent and fun.

The Alan Parsons Project - The Turn of a Friendly Card
90

This album feels like a package of various different sounds, all sounding surprisingly refined and cohesive with one another. There's some evident inspiration here, blending elements of Elton John and Pink Floyd's style. Another very good release from APP, I would even say their best. Favourite tracks were "Time" and "The Gold Bug". This album is perfectly varied and proportional, its super captivating throughout and hard not to love.

BLP KOSHER - Bars Mitzvah
60

I've kept seeing clips of BLP KOSHER on youtube and instagram and he just seems like a super chill, down to earth guy, so I was drawn to listening to his music.

At a surface level, he might seem like another effortless, uninventive trap artist, but that's not really the case. This is actually kind of unique, Kosher sounds motivated, inspired (mostly), and enthusiastic over some really interesting and fun trap production. The production especially shines on "Fools Gold", taking on a ... read more

Roy Orbison - In Dreams
75

I don't think it's as consistent as Crying, but still a solid set of tracks nonetheless. The instrumentation is really great, but some songs just weren't hitting as hard as others. "In Dreams", "Shahdaroba", and "All I Have to Do Is Dream" are definitely some of my favourite songs from Roy. I always love how Roy handles romantics in lyrics. They aren't just nonsensical 60s love songs, they really feel actual. This album also switches it up a tad bit and is less ... read more

Chet Baker - Chet Baker Sings
75

It's quite nice. Kinda samey, but that was most records from the time so I can't complain. It's soft, easygoing, and simple in its beauty. Now this is an unpopular stance but I'm not the biggest fan of Chet Baker's voice, and while I don't mind it and I cant undermine his talent, it sometimes very slightly irks me. It's nice, but not something I wanna be laser focused on when I'm listening to it.
