It's a solid late career effort from Cypress. The eerie theming of this is cool actually, making the album really feel like its got something to go for. The album starts with a couple bangers, "Band of Gypsies" and "Put Em in the Ground", the latter I do prefer and think is one of the best on the album. They're hard hitting but at the same time have the mysterious, sinister undertone that Cypress has always been good at establishing. As it progressed, I found it to kind of ... read more
First time listening to Depeche Mode. I'm listening to this while trying to study (emphasis on trying as I'm nodding too hard to the music) for my history exam which is in 3 hours. It is 5 in the morning let's go baby.
The first big thing about this album I can praise is its great production. Every time a track was playing and my mind thought "hmm, they could add this" or "i hope this transitions into this with a more lush sound", well, it happened. In other words, the ... read more
I think there are some cool musical ideas here. DUCKWRTH shows a lot of personality and despite some pretty lush sounding music, it feels like it's not hitting as hard as it sets out to be doing. While having a lot of interesting and cool choices, the production can feel a bit frail at times, making tracks feel like they lack a significant umph to them. However ultimately, this formula in hip-hop usually turns out decent, and it's still decent here. "I'm Dead" is a cool house blended ... read more
I've always loved this song. It's beautifully arranged and so evocative, but at the same time, it's not corny. I enjoy her music generally and some of it is kind of so 'emo' for a lack of a better word that it becomes tacky. This is not the case. This is Billie's ambient melancholy pop formula at its peak.
I've been really savouring the rest of the Atmosphere albums and EPs that I haven't heard yet, and it's cause they're just too damn good. Slug is always sharp on the lyricism, bringing great cadence and storytelling with his vocals. Being of their older work, Headshots: Se7en is probably the most raw sounding album I've heard from Atmosphere yet. The production is some pretty minimalist boom bap, not as lush as their later work would be, but nonetheless does it blend with Slug's vocals ... read more
I've always quite enjoyed Dave East and Harry Fraud is undoubtedly a solid producer, so I was intrigued by this.Dave East continues to get slept on and doesn't get the recognition he deserves. Wish more people tapped in because he's really one of the most consistent in the last 10 years imo. Anyways, this albums solid.
"The Disappearance" is a great opener. "Just Another Rapper" is cool too. My favourite has to be "The Product". It's got a great beat, and ... read more
As a whole, its just a new Benny project, not outstanding but with his formula, it's inevitably alright. Benny's pen game is on point on this album. Some of the features on this actually add a lot too with Wayne spitting a great verse on "Big Dog" and Snoop making "Back Again" just even more of a bop. "BRON" was really good, maybe the best. It's anthemic, energetic, powerful, and the beat is great. Feeling similarly about "Back Again". Few other songs ... read more
Edit: 65 --> 70, a lot more appreciable on relisten.
The production on this is pretty stellar throughout. I haven't heard that much Bladee, but I think the more jarring, left field vocals are more intense on this project. I understand the appeal with his cadence but at times it's straight up just too much like on "Everlasting Flames" and "Freeze". That said, I can get behind the vocals on the other tracks, and while I don't think they're good, ... read more
Littered with horrible HORRIBLE lyrics that are either vile or supposed to be funny, but fall flatter than a subatomic thread. It's cringe, it's nauseating, at least the production is okay sometimes and he sometimes has some good flows, but it pretty much makes almost none of the songs even remotely redeemable. I did however like "Honesty" and certain aspects of "HAHAHA", but by the standards of this album I can only praise them to a certain mark. This is like ... read more
One of the most evocative soundtracks to one of the most emotionally raw, evocative games I've ever played. Absolutely Amazing.
I'll be honest, the first time I heard Kishi Bashi was "I Am the Antichrist to You" from the Planetina Rick and Morty episode. That was so heartbreaking and the song they chose was so good, I had to check it out. So I listened to it in full and have been listening to just that song since, but I've always remained curious about what the rest of Kishi Bashi's music sounds like, and well, I waited too long.
I was immediately engaged with "Intro / Pathos, Pathos", blending ... read more
I hated this at first when I initially listened to it maybe over a year ago. Somehow this works so damn well. It shouldn't but it does.
I quite enjoyed Poison Ivy, the first project I've heard from Lean. This albums got a really pure sound, both in Lean's singing and the production, which has a very nice open, spaceyness to it. In its purity, I found that the output is not always the best, but not a bad experience either. I can really appreciate what goes into every song here, even if there are definitely songs I prefer less.
"Red Bottom Sky" and "Metallic Intuition" were my favourites from the first leg. ... read more
Haven't heard anything from Weiland up until listening to this. Tbh I was NOT expecting a synth pop album like this but I really didn't know what to expect. Yea this is great. Like really great. It's not the most diverse album, pretty much staying in the same lane throughout the whole track list, but its very good nonetheless. Production is solid throughout, there are a couple questionable vocal moments, but otherwise I really have no complaints about this. Very good stuff.
Wasn't super into it with the first few tracks, but it really picks up at "If You Ain't from My Hood". Great features, super infectious production, and of course, Pat's vocal charisma really elevate most tracks. "Gorilla Pimp", "Break Da Law 2001", "We Can Get Gangsta", and "Ski Mask" were also highlights that make for a really strong middle section for this project. Then we get "Life We Live" which is an excellent change of pace to a ... read more
Yet another fantastic release by Vangelis, may he rest in peace. Vangelis always reflected the complex inner working of the world in his soundscapes, And Soil Festivities is a prime example. The first movement is gorgeous with its beautiful combination of synth pads, leads and bell variants. It doesn't get boring for even a second of its 17 and a half minutes. I feel like I'm listening to the world move along when I listen to this. Just gorgeous. Vangelis' music is one of the greatest things to ... read more
