Don's sophomore album is pretty boring. The majority of it seems very effortless. The result isn't *bad* necessarily, but just very uninteresting most of the time with a few highlights sprinkled here and there. Meh.
Even at their worst, Tribe can still deliver a solid project. "Find a Way" is phenomenal. "Steppin' It Up" is the next notable highlight. It's yet another track that epitomizes ATCQ and Busta's insanely natural and smooth cohesion together, with Redman wiggling himself in very well too. Next up there's "Like It Like That" which has just such a good beat with Tip gliding over it smooth as butter. while "4 Moms" works really well as an instrumental track, I ... read more
Not much critical nonsense to spew about this one, it's pretty straightforward. "Intro" was really fire actually, cool beat, really cool flows. I never thought "The Box" was as good as many thought, but it's still alright, especially compared to "Perfect Time" and "Moonwalkin" which are both laughably bad. Fortunately, the project picks up again with "Big Stepper". Cool beat, decent vocals, and brings back some of the cool flows from the intro. ... read more
The Platters' hits are undoubtedly their stronger work, but this is still solid and really sweet. Talented vocalists, beautifully romantic lyrics, mellow gems. Their self titled album is very well rounded. The only problem with this type of music is it can be pretty superficial and samey, but nonetheless it sounds good, just not something I'd be often listening to front to back.
Fav's were "My Prayer", "Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered", "I'm Sorry", "Have ... read more
I really like how this album presents itself. It's super conscious and the lyrical illustration on songs like "Answer", "48", and "Colossus" are fantastic also that transition from the latter to "PartyIsntOver[/etc.]" is just so good. Production is solid all around. The intro title track too was super captivating with a beautiful arrangement. I would argue that while musically inferior as a whole, the theme of love is portrayed just as well and as ... read more
Rivalling George Harrison's "What Is Life" for, in my opinion, one of the best songs ever made.
The epitome of 60s Phil Spector production charm. While technically not a studio album and rather a collection of their singles, this album gives you everything you need from The Ronettes (except for "I Can Hear Music"). It's just really lovely front to back, and of course "Be My Baby" is a masterpiece. I definitely recommend this to anybody looking for that Phil Spector mid 60s Beach Boys esque sound.
Randomly listening to this on new music drops night because pancham is cool. The first two tracks didn't really have my attention, and "Into the Wind" was rather bland. I'm not a fan of these types of vocals but they really work on "Running Shoes", a type of sound I was NOT expecting. But holy cow it hits hard. "Empty Roads, She's Beautiful" was sick too, and the latter half of the track made me feel like I was listening to an entirely different song. That ... read more
I think the production is ok on this but I do not like a lot of the vocals at all. The moany singing just doesn't do it for me. On "OMFG" he literally just changes keys while the instrumental doesn't and it sounds pretty stupid. While I really didn't like the first three tracks, "the song they played (when i crashed into the wall)" was pretty nice. The lyrics aren't too painfully emo here and the vocals feel impassioned enough to not feel like they're croaking by. Tracy's ... read more
TOXIC BOOGALOO holds a very important place in the City Morgue discography. After establishing a lot with the trap metal formula on their first two albums, you'd think they would have to switch it up for their next project to keep things engaging. Wrong. This tape is probably the most trap metal project in their whole discography, honing in on the sound more than on any other project. It's short and consistently extremely hard hitting. The perfect gateway for newer music like their solo ... read more
Jeff Lynne just keeps doing it. This man needs to be stopped he's way too good at making music. Anyways, this album sort of feels like it shouldn't work but it really does. ELO has always had the science fiction vibe to their music, but with such a heavy use of synth leads, basses, and arps, Time takes it to the next level. It isn't as refined as other ELO albums, but it still has the signature lush, infectious energy that makes the group's music so special. Lot of great tracks here but my ... read more
Stunned. The cohesion, orchestration, and soundscapes on this entire album are breathtaking. There was not a single moment I didn't love. That said, I don't think its THE best thing ever as I've heard projects under the same suit that I definitely prefer, but goddamn is this good.
Feeling similar about this as I did Be the Cowboy. It's definitely a solid set of tracks but sometimes its just kinda not my thing. There's some really spectacular production throughout the project, especially on "When Memories Snow" which was way too short. Of course there's the addictive "My Love Mine All Mine" which admittedly has been on repeat for me recently. It's just so good. Unfortunate that its been reduced to a sad anthem because it really does present a very ... read more
This is a super surreal experience. So much so that at times the album genuinely scares me and makes me uncomfortable, but in a good way. It's so unique that it's hard to pinpoint what exactly is going on musically. I love the piano cuts and the whole thing is just super evocative. This is right up my alley, love it.
Yet another album I somehow missed rating when I made this account. But yea this is a legendary album, Pac's best in my opinion.
Sounds like Bladee if he made indie/in my room type pop. But yea its uhh alright I guess. The opener was really cool but the quality of the EP goes up and down. This type of music has a charm but it isn't exactly the most enjoyable in a front to back listen, or at least, not if it goes on for too long. I suppose its 15 minute runtime is in its favour in regards to that, so not a hindrance. "Hurt" is a highlight as well. There version I'm hearing on apple music ends at "Killing ... read more
21 already made his point and its getting stale. Handful of tracks that just played and I felt like "yea that was a song". Not special, not bad, but not special. There were some standouts though, "n.h.i.e." with Doja was pretty nice. She provided a really nice backing vocal with the "yea yea" and the verse was refreshing I guess. "Dangerous" has a great beat from Metro and a surprisingly really good verse from Durk. Usually I see Durk as a feature and ... read more
Always loved "Eye In The Sky" as a kid and I'm very glad most of the album is great too. Really beautiful stuff on here, especially "Silence and I", "Old and Wise", and of course the title track. Wasn't big on "Psychobabble" but overall still very good.
Just a really beautiful indie/singer-songwriter album. Not familiar with Marika Hackman before this but I really enjoyed this project. "The Ground" was a glamorous opener, and "No Caffeine" has some addictively good drum work. The title track is also super grand and powerful. Love it. This albums got a lot going for it. The instrumentation is quality, the vocals have a lot to offer with lush harmonies and backings. There almost isn't a dull moment on this album. It's not the ... read more
