Edit: 85 --> 90
Holy shit. I had no idea what to expect going into this as the only thing I’d heard from slowthai was his banger of a feature on the hook of Denzel Curry’s “Zatoichi”. I love how crazy this sounds. From the very first track, “Yum”, at the end when he’s screaming, I was so into it. The elements of post-punk work so damn well. Some tracks like “Sooner” and “Never Again” are relatively tame in sound, but equally ... read more
Paul McCartney: worlds best celery player.
(for context, on Vegatables, the boys invited Paul to be on the song and what did he do? Chew celery. Top notch stuff really)
Edit: I want to mention how in love with "I Can See It In Your Eyes" I am. The song is so catchy and genuinely romantically heartfelt. I've been actively repping it since first listening to the album.
This album is really really charming and the first four tracks have an incredible run. Others I found, while not bad, to be rather underwhelming compared to the best parts of this album. Before going into this I figured, "I love 'Who Can it Be Now?' and 'Down Under', so surely ... read more
This is Billie's most no-nonsense project. While I definitely enjoy her previous work, I enjoy this differently. This album displays growth not only in her musical creativity, but her as a person. So many great cuts on this album. The title track shows a sound we've never heard from Billie and its as great as it was surprising to hear. It's a super developed, hard hitting and beautiful song, and at 5 minutes, it doesn't overstay its visit. "I Didn't Change My Number", "my ... read more
These deluxe tracks are really something special. They add a TON to the original tracklist, matching and even surpassing the peaks of the original 12 songs. Seriously great stuff here.
The lows are realllllly boring or just bad but the highs are quite enjoyable. Blessings has a great verse from Drake, and Kanye brings out the best in Sean on both "All Your Fault" and "One Man Can Change the World". "I Don't Fuck With You" still doesn't sound good to me and it never really did. It drags and the E-40 verse isn't very good either. Despite being the lowest rated on this website, "Stay Down" stood out to me too. Good vocals and a really ... read more
Man this thing just DELIVERS. First full experience I've had with Weezer and I can say I'm very pleased. Kinda reminds me of a more hardcore Oasis which is by no means a bad thing.
George combines his Beatles charm with the 80s sound and it works pretty damn well.
I'm not a big fan of Sam Smith but this has always been a banger to me. Great song, clean production, really nice vocals.
The mix is kinda ass but it's not that bad. I don't know who was drumming on this album but it's some of the most interesting, invigorating drumming I've ever heard on an Elvis album and I absolutely love it, even on the tracks that aren't particularly good. Exhibit A: Can't tell if "Never Say Yes" is booty or decent. I think I'm leaning more to booty. Drums still super solid on it though. Yea there's some weak stuff on here but the highs are ... read more
These ratings are absurdly harsh. This album is quite solid, and while I would credit Bare Trees to their switch up to the prominent pop-rock 70s sound Fleetwood Mac is known for, this album is still new for the band. It's diverse, interesting, and musically refined. The quality isn't to the degree of Bare Trees or Mystery to Me, their following LP, but its a solid pre Stevie Buckingham effort for sure. Also "Night Watch" is REALLY good. Like almost if not top tier Fleetwood Mac. It's ... read more
A great follow up to their most recent album. Released as an EP, this thing is 40 minutes, basically album length. It started a bit iffy with "Attachings" and "Rotary Telephone", which I wasn't particularly a fan of. However, the album quickly turns up the dial right after, giving us a quality 6 track run from "Where I'm/You're At" to the spacey, "Traveling Forever". The title track and one originally released on their recent album, So Many Other ... read more
Truly a spectacular performance. Every song sounds as refined as if recorded in a studio session. When the marching band comes in for Tusk, its goddamn amazing. Go watch the whole thing on youtube. If you like Fleetwood Mac, this is a helluva treat.
This is my introduction to Mitski. Sometimes her cadence falls flat and can feel a bit mediocre but musically the album is pretty darn solid. "Nobody" is a huge banger. I've heard it somewhere before this, probably on social media, but regardless, it's the biggest highlight for me. There's nothing bad here, the quality just ranges from okay to good. I probably would give it an 8 if it was a little bit more cohesive and consistent in quality, but I really can't complain much. Will be ... read more
Actually very solid. The second half of the album is particularly strong. "Mission Bell" is a beautiful, relaxing end to a well executed switch up for the band at the time. "Earl Gray" is a really nice instrumental too. Overall super solid, it's not amazing but I have no complaints.
