richly produced, blending elements of symphonic rock, opera, and classical music. lyrics are timeless, harmonies and melodies are completely cinematic. great album opener and closer, as well as the climactic songs in between. this will forever hold a special place in my heart.

i'm starting to believe jack antonoff is out there getting paid to produce the soundtrack to my life. lana and jack were clearly in tune with each other when creating the swooping, gentle melodies, raw lyrics and evocative atmospheres. her velvety vocals, storytelling, and choice of chords give the album a cinematic feel to it, straight out of the late 60s. it all sounds really ambitious and mature, as if she has finally captured her sound.

i had zero expectations going into this, but i have ... read more

a bunch of formulaic, emotionless, pop songs telling me to stop being sad aha. it does have a couple of decent moments that work just fine as background music.

built on juicy riffs and melodies, this album is very detailed and well-crafted in its entirety. it's got the right amount of angst, thought-provoking lyrics, and refreshing vocals. it somehow manages to sound very 90s, yet very ahead of its time. really enjoyed the slight juxtaposition of the heavy and energetic guitars with the tender lyrics.

kacey musgraves without the yee-haw, to the fullest extent of the word. average at best, but surprisingly better than expected, given her previous project.

these tunes are catchy, HIV for the ear, if you will. every song on this album feels like a tale that takes the listener to different scenarios and atmospheres. it's musically diverse, adopting elements of rock, funk, pop, folk, sesame street. ween's sense of humor and cleverness is present throughout the album. when laid back is done correctly, it becomes sophisticated. it's an impeccable mess. there also seems to be a tendency towards comedy and parody to a certain extent, which works, making ... read more

this album manages to put me in one of my most vulnerable states of mind. will toledo is a lyrical genius who knows exactly what he's doing. everything about this project screams ambition to me, whether we are talking about the original version or the updated take, where we get a clearer recording, sharper instrumentation, and a full sense of completion. diving into the lyrics is truly a magical experience but also a trap that will most likely get you instantly attached to the record. overall, ... read more

i’m just now finding out god is japanese

ahhhh this is majestic, not a single point on the record that feels meaningless, even if there is a language barrier. this is enchanting as it is meditative. the evocative soundscapes and psychedelic ambiance got me hooked instantly. this collection of songs makes me feel a heavy weight on my chest to a point where it is weirdly satisfying.

kelsey lu's sweet, elegant voice, matched with intricate instrumentals and blissful sounds delivered with such delicacy; truly absorbing and dreamy

her cover version of I'm Not In Love surely does the song justice, adding some obscure, eerie, rhythmic and layering elements to it. poor fake is a total bop, upbeat, mesmerizing, and groovy.

the rich cello, harp, tambourine, violin, and birds chirping really add to the vivid atmosphere

- nothing really special about it, too long and linear it becomes monotonous; inaudible singing every other track making it hard to stay engaged

+ pleasant intro and interludes; background music worthy; solid production, but poorly executed

from the album and track titles, to the poetry, stories, melodies, and beats; this man has a way with words, incorporated into heartfelt hip hop and flirty jazz; a collection of warm, soothing, cleverly crafted tunes that put one's mind at ease while still making it bouncy and fun

this could come out as a paradox to hip-hop due to the polite, nostalgic, and somehow innocent feel that comes with the lyrics and constant references to his loved ones; however, it works and proves its point

a 90s masterpiece full of hidden and not-so-hidden gems within the album

although it is quite lengthy, i find it very engaging due to the variety of styles and song structures; lyric-wise it is very personal, moody, and overall fun, tackling topics through great imagery that are still relevant to this day

it might take a few listens to fully absorb this as a whole; however, you can always enjoy the stellar vocals + instrumentation
