This album makes me sad, and it's not entirely because of the slow and dark ambient music that drones throughout this album. Listening to this album and seeing how it (at the time of this review) only sits at 3 reviews, and a few thousand Spotify listens, how much music is out there that we will never be able to experience. I have no idea how this record doesn't have more listens. When it comes to basic folk music, this is some of the best. I get how this record could be slow to some, but it is also such a pleasant experience that reminds me of listening to someone sitting on the porch strumming a guitar. Country music at its best. Every feature seems so purposeful and, Jason Molina has an incredible voice. If you're going to give country a chance, you would be hard pressed to find a better introduction to the genre than this album.

I really wanted to like this album, yet something about it just felt incomplete. None of the songs were able to reach their full potential and you feel a little disappointed after each track, as it just doesn't have the payoff it needs to. Despite that, there are some good moments on here, so it's impossible write off the whole album. It's worth a listen if you're into punk folk, but beyond that its nothing special.
