 - Hikaru Utada Live Sessions from Air Studios
NR
Queen did not come to play! Utada Hikaru has delivered another live session on Netflix, this time primarily centering on their new album "Bad Mode". Fortunately for us dear listeners, this time she also saved the recording from the session and published it as a live album. When I first saw the tracklist, I was a bit skeptical. Two songs from her awful English album "Exodus", two versions of Face My Fears, no Somewhere Near Marseilles or Kibunja Naino (Not in the Mood), and ... read more

Probably Tinashe’s most alternative R&B/experimental project to date. I love how drawn out and atmospheric so many of these songs are. Even on some of the most dull beats she is able to make the song at least somewhat interesting. I enjoyed this a lot and I love that with her “333” album she incorporated elements of experimentation present in this album (most notably in “Bouncin. Pt. 2” and “333” title track). I would love to see FKA twigs and ... read more

The other pop girlies wish they could pull off what Dua Lipa did with this album. On her sophomore album, Dua released what will likely be one of the best, if not the best, mainstream pop album of the 2020s. Despite many of these songs being constantly overplayed on the radio and overused in other forms of media, revisiting this album was just as fun and thrilling as my initial listen. Dua has great vocals and obviously the production on this album is ridiculously good. I think the only part ... read more

On MUNA’s third album, they discover how to make incredibly dull synthpop. Like did they try? MUNA has been on my radar for a bit ever since they collaborated with Phoebe, but I never really listened to their stuff. But maybe there was a reason! This album is comparable to “The Kick” by Foxes because both are albums that struggle to be consistent at points. Unlike “The Kick” however, this album lacks any amazing highs like a “Sister Ray” or ... read more

Maybe this is a little embarrassing to admit but I used to really like this album. It came out when I was in 11th grade, the lockdowns were days away, and I was in a bad place mentally. It was one of the first albums I had ever listened to in full (after Marina’s discography) and took over my life along with Animal Crossing and “Future Nostalgia” during the beginning days of the pandemic (until Sawayama came out). I decided to relisten after the flop that was ... read more
