Yaya Bey’s “Remember Your North Star” is a serviceable R&B that shows a lot of potential for the artist. While I adore the jazzy production of the project, there some issues I had with this album. For one, the tracklist. A lot of these songs didn’t feel fully formed or complete, and spreading 30 minutes of runtime across 18 tracks did not leave much substantial to listener between the talking interludes and short songs. Also, the songwriting on the first half of the album leaved a lot to be desired, though I will say the second half greatly improved on that front. All in all, it’s a cute listen, but I wish there was something more memorable about it.
