Navy blue continues delivering what he does best: some heartfelt introspection over some smooth simple beats. It’s very enjoyable, but nothing remarkable
One of the more consistent albums of the year so far. The production isn’t mind blowing but serviceable and provides ample room for Vince staples excellent lyricism and catchy motifs to shine
Consistently great tracklist. Has a similar sludgy sound to their previous album this year, but features a bit more variety and mathy moments that differentiate it. It’s hard to say which I prefer, but it might be this
I couldn’t imagine hearing this shit for the first time in ‘69. Must’ve blown everyone’s minds. Even now this is incredible and badass. The guitar is killer, the symphonies are heavenly, and the vocals are one of a kind
Some really great ambient music that, at its best, provides a vivid harrowing atmosphere. Some incredible production here
Some cool beats. Would love to see these expanded on into fuller songs :)
Incredibly consistent playing from everyone involved and very fun bops. Great solos from the both of them as well
Some incredible jazz that takes you on a journey through its modest run time. Music is at its best when you get to see the inside of one’s soul without the need for lyrics
Some great electronic production. It is a bit messy, some lyrics can be a bit tough to stomach and some hooks don’t do it for me but this is certainly an album to pull songs from. Also polo is criminally underrated that shit crazy
Some of the greatest hits of all time no doubt. The smaller cuts, while not to the level of that run in the middle, hold their own as well
Mj is like a snake charmer for people. Hip movement is irresistible when this gets thrown on
A few very solid songs. Nothing crazy, just simply offering some straight to the point hiphop for the fans
A truly grand album in every sense of the word. There are imperfections for me that could be argued as charming aspects but don’t quite work for my taste, but regardless don’t take away from the greatness on display
He’s got some shit to say and says it with conviction over some fun and funky af beats
There are some nice cloud beats. It works to an extent in its simplicity, but I would have liked for it to do a bit more, it just drags
“I’ve never been in love before” my ass. I don’t believe it for one second. That voice and trumpet can make the straightest of men (me) question everything
A very solid debut of jazz proficiency. Some nice instrumentals with enough variety to stay engaged for the short duration
It’s a fun trip into the 70s, doing the era justice. It just fails to stand out enough past the first few tracks to be much more than a sweet background listen.
