Wonderfully produced modern country album. Charley's first major label album and first in a trilogy of albums that have the same production, its a really good start. Charley's voice is the best its ever been and the instrumentation is varied and rich. The lush strings brought in combined with his voice give a very warm tone thats cut with western guitar licks that accent the songs well. There are a couple songs that are a bit string heavy for my taste and a rerecording of a precious ... read more
This album brings one of a kind energy. It brings elements of both hardcore and metal, but overall it evokes more hardcore than anything. The vocals took some getting used to when I first heard this album, they have a Knocked loose-ish quality that I think can throw people off. After initial immersion, I quite like the high yelling vocals and how they mix with the intense low chugging guitars. The guest vocal spots are also cool for a change of sound and ending rap is cold. Death Grips came back with something somehow even more aggressive than before. Just when you think theyre due to become repetitive, they found another way to diverse their intense chaos through electronic noise/punk/hardcore. This album is really one of a kind in delivering attitude and intensity in such a unique package of ... read more
This is very close to the prlerfect death grips album, minus a song or two that dont work for me. The boys were crazy to make these two halves one release, but its pretty cool to have an sampley, electronic half and a guitary rock half. The bjork samples on moon are very cool, i remember it being used as a hook in the marketing for the release when n***** on the moon was released but it doesnt feel forced at all. Ride perhaps has his most versatile performance on this album as we yells, ... read more
Death Grips have turned down the punchiness but maintained an intensity with a different focus than previous albums. This album captures the boys going vibes- forward. Some of these songs hardly contain traditional elements of songs or very many lyrics, but they convey a lot through longing and spacey beats. This album isnt very long, but it feels like thats out of necessity due to the repetitive intensity of the last half of the album, they burn bright and fast. Ride does his least amount of ... read more
