Killer Be Killed - Reluctant Hero
Nov 20, 2020
I was waiting for this record to drop and waiting to finally hear it. Now that I did, oh man... It's one of the best Metal albums of this year no doubt

Killer Be Killed is one of the many supergroups that are known in the Metal genre. Sadly, most of them are all hype and just a few deliver the musical proposals that we as fans might expect, but I looked at Killer Be Killed and their all-star line-up and I said to myself: "This guys can't go wrong". And they didn't go wrong at all. Greg Puciato from Dillinger Escape Plan, Max Cavalera from Sepultura, Soulfly, Cavalera Conspiracy and Nailbomb, Troy Sanders from Mastodon and Ben Koller from Converge are the masterminds behind this album. You see these names and it's impossible not to get hyped, and here we are with this new installment of their project. It's curious how most of these guys come from similar, but different musical backgrounds, and yet they meet in common grounds in where they have dabbled before, that are Thrash, Groove and Alternative Metal, three Metal subgenres that might get overlooked these days by how low in popularity some of them are these days

Beyond the hype, the band delivers big time on this release. Every member is on their element and firing on all cylinders, like a well-oiled machine, creating the most punching and brutal songs you will hear this year. And while it's hard to give these 4 great musicians a moment to shine, the production does a great job at giving each one of them their moments, while not stomping on each others feet. They play for each other, they play in pro of creating the most out of their talents, that we all are well aware of

What I love the most about this album, is just how everything sounds balanced in the mix. Koller's drumming is stellar as always, creating groovy but crushing rhythm sections. Cavalera's, Puciato's and Sanders' vocals compliment each others in the right time, but is Puciato the one that shines the most, showing his range as a performer and vocalist, that can go from melodic passages to demolishing screams like few Metal vocalist can do, and these three also deliver on their respective instruments

Needless to say, "Reluctant Hero" is a great surprise for any metalhead that knows what these gentlemen are capable of, and they won't be disappointed at this release for sure
