On the Cocteau Twins’ sixth studio album they stray away completely from the gothic rock and post-punk music that they began their career making, and which continued to influence so much of their music even as they transitioned over to the ethereal wave and dream pop sound that they pioneered. Heaven or Las Vegas is certainly the band’s most accessible record, but that accessibility does not mean a decrease in quality or ambition. This album achieved a level of perfection within the ... read more

Earl goes into even darker and more depressive territory on his third album, but in doing so crafts one of the most consistently impressive hip hop albums of the last decade. Despite being only 24 minutes long, Some Rap Songs is a fully realised, conceptual effort that does a phenomenal job of tackling the topic of depression through Earl’s dejected flows, introspective lyrics and the incredible glitchy and dark instrumentation.

Most of the tracks on here don’t even reach the two ... read more

New York, late 1970s, and new wave was becoming increasingly popular, a genre of music largely influenced by the punk rock of the mid 1970s but with a greater focus on pop songwriting and a more mainstream appeal, which helped it to gain considerable success in the US. At the same time the city was being hit hard by economic stagnation, there was a high rate of unemployment, widespread corruption, failing infrastructure and massive amounts of crime. This combination of factors resulted in the ... read more

One of the most gorgeous and enchanting contributions to the genre of dream pop and shoegaze and yet this EP may never have been heard outside of a handful of people, and today still sits in relative obscurity. I hope I can do a small part in changing that with this review!

Eric Shea was at a Ride and Lush show in 1991, when he was handed a flyer that read “Band seeking guitarist and singer. Influences include Slowdive, Cocteau Twins, Xmal Deutschland, The Byrds, Lush, Pale ... read more

Slowthai’s latest release is a generic and forgettable pop rap album which lacks the interesting themes, quality production and unique personality, which made his debut such an exciting album in the UK hip hop scene. For this album Slowthai chose to split it into two discs of seven tracks each, which you can clearly differentiate between by the uppercase letters of the first disc in contrast to the lowercase ones of the second. I suppose the aim was for the first half to be a set of hard ... read more

This is one of the most exhilarating albums I’ve ever listened to, if there’s ever a time I need a confidence boost I just put this album on and it always gets me in a good mood and feeling like I can take on anything. The pummelling drums and howling guitars all over this album are absolutely thrilling. And Joe Talbot’s passionately shouted delivery of politically charged lyrics full of positive energy only enhance this further, to create an engaging and invigorating ... read more

Thank you for the kind words, friend. Also, It's really good to hear about your Gelug enjoyment. I have to say its sound may be a bit far off from what I am currently looking for in music, but I'd be lying if I said I don't hold that project in some regard. As a matter of fact, we had been working on new music for the past year, but that has been put on hold as well. Maybe in a near future. Again, thanks for the interest, and for the really gentle words.
