Great album. It maintains a high ground, despite it's relatively high ceiling, even if it only reaches those peaks occasionally. Earl lays bare his psyche in depth, and depicts a whirlwind of depression and negativity. Unlike his peers from Odd Future, he seems less concerned with appealing melodies, opting for something transgressive, deliberately uncomfortable, but still hauntingly beautiful. There's a palpable, almost suffocating atmosphere, with production more reminiscent of Oneohtrix than the musical tropes of the genre. A beautiful collection. Billie Holiday depicts, with fairytale whimsy, a cinematic romance. Her voice has a certain quality that simply resonates.
