I’m SO fucking hype for whatever this next album is. these past couple songs have been so incredible
The first half of Low is strange with its structure, but still manages to deliver a version of Bowie that everyone already knows. He’s just a distorted version of his former self at this point, really, experimenting with limits and trying not to push too hard on his already established writing styles. The second half is where he becomes an entirely different artist altogether, and reaches levels of experimentation and forward-thinking achieved by very few artists. He abandons everything ... read more
Good, albeit pretty standard gizz stuff. Even without the context of their previous releases, this still stands as a respectable early entry in their ridiculous discography, despite the spotty track listing. Worth a listen imo.
This is a great first full step into the deep end of post-rock. However, I kinda feel like the first half outweighs the second in terms of quality by a landslide. The Rainbow and Eden are by far my favorite tracks from this project, so it would’ve been nicer if more cuts as solid as these were present throughout the whole runtime. Still, I think this is definitely deserving of the praise it’s gotten and I can understand why someone would absolutely adore it.
i've got a friend who's a big fan of these guys. they had me listen to Manic a good while ago and i thought it was alright. it wasn't anything special, but it definitely had some merit and a couple of stand-out tracks, which kept my interest up for what this next record would be like. my first taste of it was back when MAGNETIC dropped, and holy shit was that a sour taste. this track is the most bland, radio-friendly metal track i've heard in my life. it's so perfectly ... read more
i don't know what it is about these 3 chords repeating over and over for 10 minutes, but there's nothing else like them. it feels like a track i've been hearing all my life, but i haven't. so i guess i'm glad i'm hearing it now. thank you.
ayyy, chiptune! love seeing that, i feel like it doesn't get as much love as it should. anyway, i'd say i enjoyed listening to this. i really like seeing all the experimentation on here, mixing in some breakcore-type stuff with the retro sounds.
some production tips - watch the bass! it's pretty loud and too distracting at points. some EQ and compression could eliminate this pretty easily (i think. i'm no expert). also, some of these more keyboard-y lines tend to overpower ... read more
i mean, it's alright. i might just need another listen or two, but i really don't see what's special about this. i feel like it's not really doing much new sound-wise and as far as lyrics go these are pretty standard. like, it's not at all bad (even if i'm not a fan of the vocals), it just seems like another midwest emo album with some more stress on pop punk elements. if anything, i tend to like this album the most when it's doing anything but midwest emo. ... read more

this clicked HARD. jeez, man. what a beautifully painful album.
holy shit this is fucking LOUD
Parannoul's an artist i've made myself pretty familiar with. i've listened to basically all of his solo work and have enjoyed a good chunk of it. however, i don't think i could've ever anticipated a release like this one. the genre blending going on here is pretty insane, and i very much respect it, but it doesn't really stick the landing always. this sort of imperfect balance makes me adore certain sections of some tracks while making other sections kinda iffy. ... read more
250 ratings woohoo
i've been listening to Aphex Twin for a good while now. i really enjoyed both of his "Ambient Works" albums a bunch, but i'd say this is the first time i'm listening to something by him as an actual fan. he's been like 90% of what's in my rotation this past week, so i felt like checking this album out next and just going in order from here would be a good few next steps. and i was right! this is exactly the kind of thing i wanted to hear after absolutely adoring ... read more
YOU A SQUARE YOU ROBLOX!!!!!!!!
had the dumbest smile on my face the whole time listening to this. absolutely outstanding energy complimented with some extremely well-done production and stupidly hilarious lyrics. this is the most fun i've had listening to anything in a long time, i can't lie.
yeah this shit is absolutely incredible. it's also super unique. i can't think of any other post-rock projects i've heard that sound at all similar to this one. the only thing this reminds me of in any vague sense is Minecraft music, which is a massive positive. i'll probably be returning to this a lot now that i've taken the time to listen to it again.
i was originally enticed by the title, album cover, and suspiciously long closer, but upon closer listen, i got a front-to-back masterpiece. this shit is absolutely ethereal to my ears. genuinely just had a hell of a time listening to it all. great stuff, hoping to write a full review for it later.

i decided i'm gonna review this before OK Computer just to have some context of their transition into that sound. Paranoid Android needs no introduction and i also want to save it for later, so i'll just state for now that yes, it's a masterpiece. i'm also not gonna cover Let Down just yet. what's left are 4 great extra tracks that help set the stage for what's to come. the vibes are completely otherworldly and surreal, especially on A ... read more

as i said in my review of The Bends, i consider Street Spirit to be one of the band's best. it's also my favorite track from this era, as i love how it sorta foreshadows a lot of ideas that would be explored further on OK Computer and even Kid A, especially with those string arrangements. anyway, a-side aside, let's look at the b-sides. i've actually heard Talk Show Host before, it's just been a good while. revisiting it, i can say with ... read more

i haven't actually listened to Fake Plastic Trees a lot since i first heard it since i was more obsessed with High and Dry instead. it's pretty much right on par with it, though. genuinely just a beautiful track with some extremely painful last few lines.
