Backxwash - Only Dust Remains
87

A phenomenally grand and consistent album from Backxwash. The grandness of it all, meshed with her emotional delivery, adds to the cinematic and atmospheric experience. The drums are probably my favourite part of the project.
Fav Tracks: Black Lazarus, Wake Up, 9th Heaven

This project just kind of exists. It's not bad, but it's not good? I don't really know why and how it came to be, but it just feels like nothing burger. Some instrumentals are pretty cool, but Kaycyy feels uninspired vocally. I much prefer the mixtape he dropped later this year.
Fav Tracks: SLÁINTE, BRUISED, Green Trees
Least Fav: Carry On

Ken Carson - More Chaos
45

After the great success that was A Great Chaos, Ken decides to change pretty much nothing and put out a project of generic and uninspired songs that had none of the charm that A Great Chaos had. Very few highlights, and Ken sounds creatively exhausted just putting out an album because he has to.
Fav Tracks, Money Spread, Trap Jump, Blakk Rokkstar
Least Fav: Psycho

Bon Iver - SABLE, fABLE

This album is super beautiful and dreamy. Justin Vernon's vocals sound super powerful over the soft instrumentation. The album is super warm and is best listened to on a relaxing sunny day, taking in the weather and life itself.
Fav Tracks: Everything Is Peaceful Love, From, There's a Rhythmn
Least Fav: Short Story

Jane Remover - Revengeseekerz
97

This album is awesome, the beats are some of the best in the genre, and the autotune that Jane uses is so good. The album scratches an itch that no other album in the genre really scratches. Every single song slaps, and it has been in constant rotation since it dropped. The song structures are also super unique, and the album flows super well as a result.
Fav Tracks: TWICE REMOVED, Star people, angles in camo
Least Fav: Fadeoutz

2hollis - star

Overall, a fun but inconsistent listen. He taps a lot more into an electropop direction on this album, and it goes over ok. A lot of tracks I felt were pretty forgettable compared to the singles that he had put out before the album dropped. The tracks that hit, hit though.
Fav Tracks: flash, tell me, nice
Least Fav: you

Panchiko - Ginkgo
81

I'm happy that, after the exposure the band got after Death Metal, they can thrive and return to making music. The best part is that the music is genuinely good. the dreamy elements that they bring to their indie rock sound. Even more impressive is that their frontman still sounds great after 20 years.
Fav Tracks: Florida, Ginkgo, Chapel of Salt
Least Fav: Formula

Black Country, New Road - Forever Howlong
83

The group's first album without Isaac Wood, and although his presence is definitely missed, the group shows that they can thrive just as well without him. The album is much softer this time around, and May Kershaw's vocals do just fine. In my opinion a great album considering a major change in the structure of the band.
Fav Tracks: Two Horses, For the Cold Country, Nancy Tries to Take the Night
Least Fav: The Big Spin

Skrillex - F*CK U SKRILLEX YOU THINK UR ANDY WARHOL BUT UR NOT!! <3
77

Super fun and fast-paced album. The tracklist is very long, but it works so well if you don't pay attention to the album. Just immerse yourself in the atmosphere that Skrillex creates.
Fav Tracks: SPITFIRE, KORABU, VOLTAGE
Least Fav: THINGS I PROMISED

My second black metal album of 2025, and although not as great as Deafheaven, this was still a solid listen. I thought it to be slightly less consistent. The instrumentation on this is awesome though, the drums probably being my highlight, especially on the outro track.
Fav Tracks: Eye of Mars, Gomorrah Nouveaux, Industry of Misery
Least Fav: Rot Moderne

SPELLLING - Portrait of My Heart
78

Hard-hitting pop-rock with some killer vocals. Some choruses are really catchy; I find myself humming them occasionally, especially the intro track. Also, I really like the Sometimes cover; I thought she did the original justice.
Fav Tracks: Portrait of My Heart, Drain, Sometimes
Least Fav: Keep it Alive

Perfume Genius - Glory
76

Beautifully produced singer-songwriter project. really easy to find yourself swaying to the music and letting yourself relax. I think it falls off a bit in the second half, but apart from that, it's a pretty consistent listen.
Fav Tracks: It's a Mirror, Left For Tomorrow, Full On
Least Fav: Dion

Deafheaven - Lonely People With Power
86

I don't listen to much black metal, but this album may have put me onto the genre. The vocals are absolutely insane, and I love the more alternative rock implementations on this.
Fav Tracks: Doberman, Heathen, Winoa
Least Fav: Revelator

NAV - OMW2 REXDALE

Nav album, boring with minimal highlights, not enough features to make it interesting enough.
Fav Tracks: UNLIMITED, REAL ME
Least Fav: ONE OF NONE

Japanese Breakfast - For Melancholy Brunettes (& sad women)
65

Whimsical-sounding poppy folk music. This was good, but unfortunately, nothing really stuck with me. Some tracks were catchy whilst others just fell boring. Not bad by any means, just not memorable
Fav Tracks: Here is Someone, Honey Water, Picture Window
Least Fav: Little Girl

Men I Trust - Equus Asinus
79

This album is super relaxing and cozy. This is just 43 minutes of a relaxing evening, where you can unwind in warm blankets. The last leg kind of blends into each others. Otherwise, super consistent.
Fav Tracks: I Come With Mud, All My Candles, Paul's Theme
Least Fav: I Don't Like Music

Saba & No I.D. - From the Private Collection of Saba and No I.D.

Consistently great project from Saba. Raps are on point, choruses and catchy, and the beats are soulful and banging. Probably his best effort since Care For Me.
Fav Tracks: Westside Bound Pt. 4, head.rap, a FEW songs
Least Fav: BIG PICTURE

Curren$y - Never Catch Us
58

A very one-faced project. I don't feel very strongly about anything on here except for a few highlights. Nothing exceptional worth talking about here. Just a normal project from Spitta.
Fav Tracks: Checkpoints, True Lies, All Season Long
Least Far: Duct Tape

clipping. - Dead Channel Sky
57

This is my first clipping album, and to me, it felt all over the place. Sometimes it just felt like stuff was missing from tracks. The raps and the flows were dope though.
Fav Tracks: Dodger, Welcome Home Warrior, Ask What Happened
Least Fav: Polaroids

Playboi Carti - MUSIC
79

The tracklist is extremely long and messy, which I think is the charm of this album. Some tracks are extremely basic and generic, but some are experimental as far as mainstream hip hop goes. Playboi Carti shows he's still at his prime creatively; he's just lost a bit of the curation touch he had on past releases.
Fav Tracks: OPM BABI, LIKE WEEZY, HBA
Least Fav: CHARGE DEM HOES A FEE
