Slipknot really did get off to a rocky start, but I wouldn't say it's the worst I have heard from them.
For what it is, Mate Feed Kill Repeat is a pretty enjoyable album in a so bad it's fun way.
Really, the one good thing about this album is that the instrumentals, for the most part, are pretty interesting. Other than that, the vocals and the lyrics are really bad. I mean, they are so bad that in the hidden track the singer straight up questions the lyrics.
I would be lying if it wasn't fun, though. Unlike some albums, this one didn't bore me. However, some of the tracks were way too long. Killers Are Quiet is 10 minutes long, but the last 3 minutes are just a loop of the same drum pattern. Also, the hidden track starts off with about 4 minutes of the same instrumentals, and it is incredibly boring. Other than that, though, it is okay for what it is, but don't expect anything too great, because it really is bad.
