If I was introduced to Alicia on this album I would rate it super high because it isn't a bad album it's just very different from all her previous releases. Some of the songs sound generic and I never thought I would say that about Alicia.
When It's All Over for instance even though the outro was super cute sounded like she wanted a generic UK hit circa 2012 since Element of Freedom did very well there. The Jeff Bhasker produced Girl on Fire was an attempt to remake Try Sleeping with A Broken ... read more

I wasn't alive for the era of radio station dedications and writing letters to someone you love as the only means to communicate but this album took me there. It's like the soundtrack to your first crush and the ups and downs of young love. Ralph's voice was the perfect anchor for this album! Songs like With You All The Way, Sweet Thing, Let's Be Friends, Whispers in Bed and Who Do You Trust, so cute. I love this album even though I haven't been in the age range I could relate to it for almost ... read more

The singles she released off of this didn't prepare me for what was on The Element of Freedom. It sounds like an 80's pop album with a few modern elements honestly, this was quite the surprise. I am happy to report that this was still an enjoyable listen although I fear as I give her all her albums a listen I don't think any will rate higher than Diary. Standouts for me were That's How Strong My Love Is (5-star song) ,Try Sleeping with a Broken Heart, Love is My Disease, Distance and Time and ... read more

I decided to revisit As I Am because I am certain I heard this when I was a teenager many years ago plus I have decided to give Alicia Keys' full discography a gradual listen. This album sounds to me like the label asked Alicia to make an album with diverse sounds, it has a little bit of everything. My fave album cuts on here are Go Ahead, Wreckless Love, Saviour, The Thing About Love, I Need You, and Tell You Something. Lesson Learned is one of my fav Alicia Keys songs ever such a moment! I ... read more

What a debut! I feel like India as she recorded this said she was going to make an album that references all her music influences some even by name then combine it with a message of self-love. It's like she was meditating at the altar of music and decided to make this album as its soundtrack. This is definitely one of my favourite albums to play as a pick me up. Several times throughout this record I remarked to myself that the music and singing sounds so beautiful. I am also a big fan of the ... read more
