This definitely wasn’t anywhere near as much of a masterpiece as I was expecting it to be, it’s still a pretty enjoyable album. It definitely expands on the themes of Britishness touched on in their previous album, and is a really good Britpop album, but I don’t think that it’s as good as Modern Life Is Rubbish. The singles are really the best songs on this one, with obvious classics like Parklife, what I would consider the most British song in existence. I just love ... read more
I was really looking forward to this, seeing as it’s practically the inception of Britpop and the whole movement that came around it. This doesn’t really live up to that status, but is still a really enjoyable album, with some great songs, but some flaws. The stories that Damon tells in these songs are quite engaging, creating characters to fit with certain personality traits for some of the songs, like in For Tomorrow, Colin Zeal, and Miss America. For Tomorrow is really catchy and ... read more
I mean, it’s not the worst piece of YouTuber music I’ve ever heard. The beats are okay, and his flow is pretty good, but the lyrics are just terrible and the chorus is absolutely laughable. Who thought it was a good idea to release shit with a chorus like that? What’s it with YT animators making music nowadays, it’s definitely not the art that they lean towards, considering their job. It seems like they think they have to prove something by bringing out these ... read more
I expected this to be good, but not this amazing. The first time I was listening to this I actually thought I was gonna like it more than LP1. Even though that’s no longer my opinion, it’s still great. First off, I want to say, I’m pretty sure Uncomfortably Numb is going to go down as one of the best songs of the year. The lyrics really hit me hard, as Mike seems to be singing about his struggles with his father in his youth, comparing it to him now being a father, and having ... read more
“There were some things that were said that weren’t meant”. That’s not what I’m gonna be saying after discussing all the great things about this album. It’s absolutely packed with raw beautiful emotion, and it’s just so amazingly structured so that everything flows together so well, putting a real emphasis on the interaction between the two guitars. Mike Kinsella’s vocals are perfect with everything else, and the drumming isn’t loud and, but ... read more
I mean, I’m not a furry or gay, but I’d totally let Will Toledo yiff me.
Favourite Tracks: Fill In The Blank, Vincent, The Ballad Of Costa Concordia
Least Favourite Track: Joe Goes To School
The first time I listened to this I knew I was gonna prefer this to their debut, and I guess I was right. Even though their debut has grown on me, and I’ll probably change my score on that after writing this, this blew me away with some goddamn bangers. The drumming on every song is so good, and the danceability of some of the songs on this album immense. This is the third AM album I’ve listened to and on all of them my favourite song’s been the first track, on this one ... read more
I’m kinda tempted to give this an 80, but I don’t feel I can. Though many people would consider the lo-fi aesthetic of this album to be one of the best parts, I find that it only holds the album back on a lot of songs. The only tracks I feel it enhances are the first three tracks and Psst, teenagers, take off your clo. It certainly doesn’t fit as well as it does on the original Twin Fantasy, though I can appreciate the production sounds a lot tighter on Teens Of Style compared ... read more
This album reminded me why pop punk is one of my favourite genres. Sure, there may be a lot of bad pop punk bands, but there are gems like this, just like in every genre. I can definitely see how this had influence on later bands like Paramore and maybe even My Chemical Romance. I’ve gotta say, I cannot decide which is better between this and The Devil And God Are Raging Inside Me. There are just so many good things about both. The chorus on Sic Transit Gloria blows you away and the story ... read more
This is certainly a strange change of direction for Damon, as it’s a lot more melancholy than any of his stuff for Blur or Gorillaz (even Melancholy Hill). There seems to be some Radiohead influences, with some electronic experimentation. This is definitely a very atmospheric album, and apart from Mr. Tembo and Heavy Seas Of Love, it’s pretty calm. The looped instrumental throughout the song Everyday Robots and “Autonomous” repeated throughout really helps to paint this ... read more
From most of the reviews I have seen, I’m almost scared to say that Funeral is not my favourite Arcade Fire album, it comes second for me. Instead, Neon Bible is my favourite one. It’s got better production than their previous effort, and has just better songs in my opinion, though not that much better. With Arcade Fire it’s hard to actually choose between their first 3 albums, bc they’re all just amazing.

British patriotism is loving the music but hating everything else about the country. As a British guy, I can wholeheartedly confirm this. I really want to like this more than Merrie Land, but I don’t think I can. However, I’m gonna give it the same score, as this is just nearly as good as it. There’s some pretty clever instrumentation here mixing indie rock with some electronics in a similar way to, but a bit better than, Blur’s Think Tank, another of Damon ... read more
This really wasn’t as bad as I was expecting it to be, as there was loads of mediocre scores on here, but it’s a pretty solid album. Obviously not as good as their debut, but still an emotional and nice emo rock record. I’m definitely looking forward to their next album even more after hearing this and the amazing single Uncomfortably Numb. The opening track Where Are We Now? isn’t exactly a standout track, but really good at opening the album, and sort of setting the ... read more
The Brobecks really deserve more attention. This album and Violent Things have some amazing stuff. Decided I’d add this album after I saw the only Brobecks record on here is Violent Things, and I think that’s just wrong, seeing as this is a really enjoyable indie pop record, with a kind of loose concept. The production isn’t amazing, as it’s self-released and I don’t think Dallon had evolved enough as a musician for some great production. The version of Boring on ... read more
This album once again shows how perfect Radiohead is. They’re turning out to be one of my favourite bands. This is probably Radiohead’s “prettiest” album to date, even beating out In Rainbows on that front, and also their saddest by far. All of the instrumentation is just so goddamn beautiful and effective in every song all the way from Burn The Witch to True Love Waits, two of the highlights of the album. Burn The Witch starts off with a captivating tune and captivating ... read more
I was really utterly disappointed by this album. The two other Basement albums I’ve heard are absolutely spectacular, Colourmeinkindness and Beside Myself, and they were a great way of introducing me into the emo genre. But this one really fell short for me, especially as I had heard so many good things about it. Now, I still wouldn’t call this a bad album or anything, just not what I anticipated. It just doesn’t seem to have nearly as much emotion poured into it as the two ... read more
This is an album that my dad played a lot when I was really really young and I have memories of this playing in the background pretty often, but it wasn’t until over a year ago that I was reintroduced to this after a friend of mine played Feel Good Inc. and I instantly knew I needed to look into more of their stuff. No matter how many times I listen to this album I never get bored of it. I was instantly attracted to some of the weirder songs, such as White Light and especially Fire Coming ... read more
