Seven years ago, Everything Everything won me over with the way their abstract lyrics discussed grand matters and issues without sounding cliché over interesting production. Helicopter was my first favorite song. I remember the first time I heard it so vividly. I was like 4 years old, and it was playing on my cousin’s PC. Couldn’t understand a word, but the riff and the vocal melody of the “there’s a time and there’s a plahaAaAace” part were stuck in my head. Going from Kid A to this one felt like the novelty of discovery giving way to the horror of realization. The contrast reminded me of the similarities people draw between toddlers and older adults. I wish these two were my introduction to Radiohead.

I for one love hearing all the recent disco-influenced pop music. It's not just about the sound for me, but the way it has become a sort of pathway to veer away from the phony "relatable" and "personal" stuff of the last decade. It's nice seeing pop artists letting the main character complex rest for a bit. That's partly why I loved the Ava Max album from earlier this year, though the fact it's packed with bops from front to end also helped.

The vocals are mixed horrendously, like every Drake song since 2018. That doesn't change the fact that this would be a highlight if it was on any of his last four albums.
