This album does things in a vein similar to the recent Don't Tap the Glass by Tyler, The Creator, but its done much better there than here.
In many ways this is a standard pop outing but its also a very earnest and fascinating album thats ahead of its time in pretty undeniable ways.
Good album that clearly takes alot of inspiration from the work of Autechre and Nero's Day at Disneyland. In my opinion, it even improves on those artist's work in some ways. If you like that style of music, you'll probably be able to get behind this. The cover art is also one of the best of any album i've seen.
This is a frankly amazing album and is certainly deserving of its reputation.
I went into this having heard of this album, almost exclusively in a positive light. Admittedly, I assumed this reputation was hyperbolic. I assumed this album was not as good as most people said.
When I actually listened, I was not prepared for the emotional surreal world that this album builds. It conveys its themes of grief in particular so well. It truly is an album that speaks from the heart, which is part of ... read more
I've never been too fond of Drake both as a musician and as an individual but this album is very competent. The beats and production are really what does it for me, The Alchemist did some masterful work which pushes this into being Drake's best album by a rather significant margin
Decent album with some certainly agreeable parts (namely the title track and the 15th track), but several parts of this leave alot to be desired and some of the attempted elements do fall flat.
Really really beautiful, yet somewhat stressful, music.
This album was some really great instrumentation and vocals and is incredibly forward thinking for any rock opera of its time period
This album is pretty middle of the road. It's college a cappella groups doing covers of Ben Fold songs, Ben Folds is an ok artist, I like some of his work, but these really aren't that worth going out of your way for.
Mediocre songs with whiny vocals. Its just not anything special and the defining features of the album aren't positives.
I love this album, the guitar is so rad and filthy on almost every track. This combines with the raunchy perverted lyricism to create a grimey and unclean atmosphere.
This record is really cool and I'm glad to have listened to it. The guitar and instrumentation is somewhat minimalist but in a very beautiful way. The vocals sound similar to most of its genre, but that's far from a complaint. Its very dreamlike, and can be described as a strange sort of comforting honesty.
The fact this album never got a proper full release at its time is an absolute crime. It's full of so much detail and I love the fact that every song calls back to the central track that is "Heroes and Villains". Serving as a sequel to the acclaimed Pet Sounds, the album can be paired pretty well with that one, which is often a fun touch.
Like the much later Love You, I feel this album is best read as a character study of the psyche of Brian Wilson, who is without a doubt a ... read more
I love the atmosphere. Its just plain beautiful. I was filled with joy today and it fused somehow near perfectly with this albums depressive outlook.
This music has trailer park methlab vibes. In the midwestern united states there is a trailer park methlab and the owners just use a discrotted cd of this album as backing music.
Preordered the vinyl. Had very high expectations for this album, car seat is one of my favorite bands and I dont think they've ever released anything so far. This album delivers, though isn't their best work. I think its great in storytelling and atmosphere but it isn't as emotionally touching as Nervous Young Man or Twin Fantasy were to me. I think it works particularly well on vinyl, which for most albums isnt the case (i think, i only own two vinyl). Anyway this is a nice ... read more
